Is there a way to Scan and Search at the same time ? I want to Scan and use my Custom Search feature at the same time, is this possible ?

Yes, at least with the SDS & the BCD x36HP series. There is a feature called “Search with Scan” available. Not sure about the 996P2. Check the features...

I had this scanner scanning and searching at the same time, couldn't figure out how to stop it though, I ended up resetting it.

If you like to search with the scanner, to have a Quick Key set up for search ranges, either Custom Search or Service Search, is very valuable for a couple reasons.
First, the speed to activate the search range is much faster without having to go through the menu
Second, you can use the SCAN button to resume a search where if you have accessed the Search via the Menu, it stops the search and resumes scan.
I have not found a way to assign a quick key without using software though
