Anyone know when the new Southern Nevada scanner book will be out? I have some time during the holidays and would like to update my scanners.

The RR Database should be much more helpful then the book...also, if you are referring to the book sold at radio shack it has been discontinued.

HERE is a link for clark county, nevada (looks pretty 'southern' to me)

HERE is a link for the whole state, and you may choose which county you would like to see the freq's for.

I believe Billybob is referring to the Souther Nevada Scanner Directory, a locally produced publication availoable in Las Vegas.

I suspect that Bentley has not seen the Southern Nevada Scanner Book which seems to have a lot more information in it for this portion of Nevada than does RR. AES, the sole dealer for it, mentioned that the book should be out sometime in early 2008 (the seventh edition).

The email address listed in the guide is: lvscannerbook@yahoo.com

Fire off an email and see what's up. Was thinking about doing that myself since I'm still staring at my Sept 2006 5th edition. The 6th edition came out in April of this year iirc, but I haven't bothered to grab it just yet. Guess I will email and see what's up myself.

EDIT: Ok, scratch that idea, the email address is dead. Great... doncha hate writing nice emails to people (not the one line wonders some people use) only to have it bounce right back in your face because the address is dead? Oh well...

Will fire off an email in a few.

In the 5th edition they make note of several instances of people in other parts of the state wanting info. They (the makers of the guide) specifically called for people to tell them of their interest in a Northern Nevada guide, or perhaps even a statewide one. I'm sure it's a possibility for the future, definitely.

Thanks for the updated email address.

Email sent, and it didn't bounce back, great sign! :D

I'm sorry guys....I you are right, I thought he was talking about that old book from radio shack. My mistake, thats what I get for poking my nose in the Nevada forum when I am from Jersey! lol

Again...sorry if I caused any confusion. :(

Not a problem. If you ever do get to southern Nevada for vacation etc. The book is very good. As good as the RR database is, sometimes I still love a piece of paper. The guys who made the Radio Shack books and others provided a valuable service. I actually have some of the old Communications Research Bureau, (CRB) publications from the early 1960's when I got into public service monitoring in the San Francisco area, before scanners when the Bearcat was a convertor you put next to your AM radio. Ah, the good old days. Lousy sensitivity and no squelch.

I sent off the email earlier and received this as a reply (hope the sender doesn't mind, there's nothing particularly personal about it but I can't say 100% for certain that's it an automated reply, and it probably isn't):

Thanks for your interest in our next edition. As we have one reseller of the publication, Amateur Electronics Supply in Las Vegas, we attempt to coordinate the new edition with the approximate date that they will be out of stock of the old edition. This is balanced by the amount of changes, new information, etc that is available for the new edition. In the past our average time between editions has been seven months, but this time it will be a bit longer. Our logical guess for the next publication release date is Feb 2008.

The new edition will have many updates including new maps for the LVMPD and NLVPD.
Henderson PD has been less than cooperative in this matter.

Anyway, thanks for the e-mail and be sure to monitor on New Years Eve, the best time to listen to the locals every year.

Soooo... obviously I'll be listening. The Clark County FD was doing a massive exercise today on TGs normally assigned as NYE (New Year's Eve) TGs so, guess things are getting ramped up for all the action in a few days.

The southern nevada scanner book is a great reference of local frequencies and id tgs of the most up to date changes. A real time saver since I can't always monitor all the activity and try and figure out new ids and frequency changes. I always have it handy when I monitor at home and use it as a reference constantly. My first book was the 5th edition and I was so impressed with the book that the pages got worn out from constant use in the car and several times I actually fell sleep on it, that I went and got another copy. I cant wait for the new 8th edition to come out, thank you brOadband for shooting out that email and posting the responce.

New Year's Eve & The Book

Monitor the Nevada Military Dept. (National Guard) and NV Emergency Management (Part of DPS) near New Year's Eve for radio tests and more. They are "radio active" for the event. The NSRS talkgroup ID tables in the book will give you the talk groups involved.

Henderson Maps

The PD service area map is interesting but does not give the individual patrol districts that the old HPD map gave. The HFD map is very good in regards to detail. An e-mail has been sent to the book publisher telling them where they can acquire the maps.
