I was wondering if anyone knew what the scanner frequencies for huntsville police and fire departments are? I am only wanting the main channels that they talk on. Also if they are on a trunking system what information are they on.

any help would be appreciated. Also i have a trunk tracker scanner and also like any help on how to program those trunk frequencies. If you could be of any help i would greatly appreciate it.

I would like some info as well. Even though I have the freq and PL tone, I am not sure what the offset would be.

I have loaded the proper / available info, just not hearing anything.

Thanks for the help.

Zac, i might be wrong here but all of huntsville is on the afrs system. I am not 100%sure if its a phase2 system.if it is phase 2 u need a phase 2 scanner.
Also other than dispatch channels for pd are clear
All other law stuff is encrypted. Huntsville city fire is clear.county fire is encrypted

Current HSV Freqs

Sorry I'm so late replying, haven't been on RR for awhile.

You will need a digital trunking scanner to listen to HSV radio traffic. HSV is a Phase I system so there are plenty of affordable scanners around that can receive it. I use a Shack Pro 651 with good results. Since this is a multicast system, your scanner may hear more than one tower.

These are the 4 control channels for HSV Public Safety System. This is all you need to enter in the frequency table in your scanner. Configure the system type as APCO 25 Auto.

This is the latest known talkgroups for HSV radio system. Don't waste time on encrypted groups, you won't hear them. If there is not a description tag on a talkgroup, or it is listed as unknown, it is likely encrypted. Once you have put the Alpha Tags on the talkgroups in your scanner, lock out the wildcard talkgroup to filter the encrypted traffic, as it will just sound like noise.

I know most of the talk groups are encrypted, but I would program them. Several times a week Madison SO, Madison PD, Fire Disp and others will come through for 10-20 minutes in the clear here in Montgomery on the AFRN.

Sure it's only a few times a week, but it helps us confirm the system here in Montgomery is working and the frequencies are still correct.

So that I fully understand here; no point in programming Huntsville TRS as listed at RR database?

What I mean is, has Huntsville TRS has been folded into AFRN? Is there any reason to program Huntsville TRS apart from AFRN? I'm thinking not and assuming the 800Mhz TRS frequencies are now a part of the AFRN.

Gotcha, can't answer to programming other than AFRN.

Thanks for the input! That helps me to learn how these statewide systems work.

Though I've monitored the airwaves since 1974, these mega systems like AFRN and the expense of scanners to receive them have just about left me in the dust.

Part of the reason I've not kept up is that the Shoals Area by and large has been slow to advance in trunking and beyond technology. That's been a blessing and a curse. The curse being that I haven't been forced to evolve with radio trends.
