Given that you're using a Uniden 436 in replacement for a WS1040, I'd have to guess that portability is important to you. That said, any non-portable options or permanently mounted antennas may be off the table. I've fought the Simulcast battle beginning with a Uniden BCD996xt and continuing to a lesser extent with the BCD536hp. I have only won that battle with the purchase of the Unication G5 a few years back. While it is true that the G5 is not a scanner, you'd be hard pressed to know the difference when only scanning one Site within one System. With the Unications, the lack of common scanner features is offset by the stellar Simulcast performance. Should you wish to stay with a scanner, the SDS100 is the best you can do.

I would heavily recommend the SDS100/200 over a BCD436HP. I live in a area where almost everything around me is Simulcast and while the 436 will technically work, the SDS is a huge improvement; there are some counties I can't get with the 436 that the SDS will pickup in the exact same location (with the exact same antenna, running identical programming.) That's my 2 cents anyway.

I guess I am the only resident of Texas answering the post.

Again, the only TxWarn cite near him is in Athens, Texas, in the middle of nowhere. How would there be any linear simulcast distortion?

The only system in the county is an encrypted TDMA system, Henderson County. He can listen to fire talk groups in his county. Personally speaking, unless I was a firefighter, I would not waste the money on a Phase II radio. A great deal of this system is around Harris County.

If he programs the TxWarn Athens site into his radio, he may or may not hear any traffic on a regular basis. Should signals pass through that site, I am sure he could hear them without any complications.

The highest structure in this "dot on the landscape" small Texas city is the Faulk and Gauntt Building. It has two floors.

The radio in question is more than adequate to monitor Phase I digital. I think it is a long shot.

I am attempting to correct statements I've made about the differences between the SDS 100 and 436HP.

I underestimated the speed of my SDS 100 due to my ignorance of programming. I had a 4 second hold time set and it was making it run very slow. Now, it is knocking them dead.
