Born in Indiana, Live in Indiana and I have never been told anything about antennas. BTW I had a big ole Diamond Dual Band on them every now and then. And the truck has 2 antennas in addition to the radio antenna. (a 800 Mhz Larson and a Rat Shack Scanner antenna) I know a local HAM whose car top looks like a porcupine with antennas all over the place.

+1. Maybe a local ordinance somewhere...there are some truly crazy local laws on the books here and there. But I never heard of any kind of "limit" on how many antennas you could have, so long as they didn't obstruct your vision or make the vehicle over-width/height...and I too have seen some of those "porcupines," and nobody made a peep about 'em.

No scanner laws = 1 more reason I've been thinking about moving to CO in a few years, despite the weed situation there...

Beware several other Nanny State laws they (Colorado) have recently passed. Asinine gun stuff, and there's a fairly strong environmentalist activist base there. Anti-oil/gas. The Senate just swang the other way, but an increase in the income tax was on the table before.

And in another thread the cops want to ban WAZE APP for officer safety concerns. Maybe they shouldn't drive in marked cars cause then everybody knows they are cops and they might be in danger.

They're doing a *little* better than they used to, but still -- most of the unmarked vehicles stick out like sore thumbs if you're at all observant. I remember the 'old days' when the 'norm' for an unmarked (heck, even a few undercovers) was a big Dodge with baby moon hubcaps. No dealer or individual ever ordered one of those - just 'agencies'.

Unless they're also ready to ban the old school Channel 19 solution, I don't see how they can touch WAZE. But as Jim said about streaming phone apps -- unenforceable.

Police scanner apps illegal in Indiana - 13 WTHR Indianapolis

But the app, for Android and the iPhone, is running up against the law, at least in Indiana. Police don't want you to have it and state law say that the average person can't.
"The statute is that if it's being used as a police radio, that's illegal to have," said Det. Jim Johnson, Muncie Police.
By law, you can listen to a police scanner at home or in a business, but nowhere else. And there's a reason.
Police are worried about the popularity of the app because criminals are using it. The most recent incidence is in Muncie during a robbery of a pharmacy.

They LOVE writing tickets on technicalities. But, that aside, how can the DOT approve of a vehicle that is illegal per state law? They surely know that they are separate antennas.

And what exactly is the safety concern or whatever that mandates this law? They can't just pass laws for the sake of doing it - there has to be a reason.

Then there is the issue that it is contrary to Federal Law which issues licenses for mobile stations. When you have a Federal license, a state law cannot nullify it.
