i still hear them LOUD and clear. especially the new trucks. those sirens are LOUD!

Can't say that I've heard them. Whatever Whelen sirens they are using in the older trucks leaves a lot to be desired. They need to think about running 200 watts instead of 100 watts. But, 100 watts seems to be OK for most other vehicles. Maybe it's the way they have the speakers mounted or something.

not yet man. i often think about the times when i used to have to keep pushing scan to follow tpd, i wasnt even a photog yet. i just liked listening. then after about a month or two i quit listening. then i was told a year later about trunk trackers and i was amazed. im sure in a year or 2 or more someone someway somehow will figure it out and it will be possible to hear them.

I don't think you guys understand that once an agency uses encryption even if digital or analog it is totaly 100% illegal to monitor them. Therefore, there will NEVER be a legal police scanner that you can buy form RS or Uniden that will monitor encrypted transmissions. If you build your own that is your own choice but I would not advertise it and if the FCC found out you could be fine a lot of money and it makes the rest of us in the scanning community look real bad. Bottom line, once a channel or TG is encrypted, then it's time to find another agency to listen to.

No one said that all the tgs are going to be encrypted. For TPD it will be SOT ops etc. EMSA is using them because of HIPPA or so they say and nobody else is using encryption that we know of at this point.

EMSA are the only goobers out there in the EMS business using encryption. The helicopters don't use it, none of the other EMS agencies use it. HIPPA has NOTHING to do with why EMSA went to an encrypted system.

Emsa Encryption

One Emsa Dispatcher Told Me It Was Because They Didnt Like The Idea That People Out There With Scanners Were Hearing Call Information, But I Don't See What The Problem Is.

Okay guys you are right about them saying that the HIPPA laws are why they went encrypted. I just said HIPPA because that's what they said the reason was for going encrypted. I am not in any way advocating the HIPPA part for EMSA, in fact I think it is a load of you know what. I am just saying that if for what ever reason an agency does not want us the scanning community to listen anymore, then they will use encrypted transmissions. If we try to CRACK these communications then we are as scanner listeners breaking the law and are subject to fines etc.
