HIPPA cant be the reason EMSA is going encrypted, I work in an ER and I have never heard an ambulance give a patient's name, even if we ask for it.
I know I'm not the only one that has heard names, but generally not on anybody involved in a media type event. I have heard Lifelight give names before Hippa became an issue.

i agree, hippa can't be the only reason. if that was the case, there would be alot more encrypted channels out there.

I believe the only reason they went encrypted was to keep people from checking their response time, that simple. if Tulsa city leaders were smart they would bail out of the emsa contract and have TFD run it. Taking a for profit business out of the loop of emergency responders is never a bad thing.

When did EMSA go to the fancy red white and blue paint job on their meatwagons? When I was with Amcare we were told white/orange was the "required" colors...

Normans EMS service has started going with the blue and white colors. The Norman Transcript in an article about the switch stated the state passed a law which formally removed orange and white only
restrictions.

The state law requiring EMS units to be Orange & White is no longer...... now Broken Arrow has Fire Engine Red EMS Units & EMSA went to the Blue White Red Design

I heard them last night, but I usually keep them locked out. I'm about 40 miles away from their territory too.

I don't understand why EMSA went encrypted either. You usually can find out where most of the calls are via TFD dispatch (in Tulsa) since they respond to most of the medical calls.

well, you could always spend 5000.00 on a radio, find the codeplug etc find someone to program it and then be able to hear them. but why would anyone want to do that? im sorry and i dont mean to offend anyone but why would you want to listen to an ambulance service anyway? seems boring to me.

I just got done with my EMT class and I would find it useful to learn about how EMSA operates and some of the lingo they use when talking to the hospitals on the radio reports.

On the flip side (just to make a point), why would anyone want to watch figure skating? It seems boring to me. ;)

You can still listen to the H.E.A.R. frequency 155.340 and hear everyone except EMSA give report to the hospitals.

You could also, if you're really interested to see how we operate, speak with supervisor about doing a ride along. I know things have tightened up a bit as far as HIPPA with rides but I believe it only requires a waiver. Don't quote me on that but if you're interested call dispatch at 596-3010 and ask for a field supv and they'll fill you in on getting a ride set up.

it was boring to listen to ESMA, i think it is just the fact that no one can hear them now is why everyone wants to; the grass is greener on the other side of the fence, right?

Sounds like EMSA doesn't want to be heard!

EMSA probably went encrypted because they wanted to be different from all the other agencies on the Tulsa TRS. Sort of like getting a new car, for a few dollars more sometimes the new car owner wants to be the talk of the town!

When they mention "HIPPA" is being the reason for being encrypted, that is a bunch of
BS. If HIPPA is the true reason, the other EMS providers would be encrypted also.
