My co workers are showing me reports they are gatherings of ICE being deployed to the local communities from Provo, allegedly being seen as far north as the Idaho/Utah border. Is anyone else scanning their frequencies? I loaded theirs in from the RR database into my SDRTrunk because they are P25, in addition one conventional NFM at 165.8375.

I don't use any social media, so for things like this I'm not really in the loop. But if there was ever a time these frequencies are going to be used, we may see activity on them in 2025.

I'm not happy about the ICE situation but most, if not all these reports are just police doing regular police stuff. Seems many people are now considering anyone with a badge, tacticool outfit, vest to be ICE which is wholly inaccurate.

ICE has a trunked system in my area. But as with any federal LE agency they use AES encryption.

So many federal frequencies I just never hear anything on, so maybe this year will be different. No wildfires here, I don't hear BLM or fire guys. No tornados or floods or anything, so I don't ever hear FEMA. Secret Service is out of the question, no ATF (when I worked in policing, there was one ATF agent that lived in Mountain Green and he repped all of Northern Utah from Davis north and part of Idaho and a bit of Wyoming- not a lot of radio traffic but holy hell he had a weapons cache in the bed of his federal truck in a wicked slide out drawer). I'm too far from the airport to hear that group, I'm too far from any federal border so no CBP...

I'm an immigrant. Just because we don't have a wall doesn't mean you shouldn't use the door. I used the door and paid my entry fee's.

I'm just interested in hearing anything Federal. I also have the eNIFOG app on my iPhone in case I need any Federal frequency.

Most federal frequencies, especially when any agency is involved in sensitive operations, are usually encrypted, but never hurts to try. Also, many federal agency are opting to use text or cellphones over radios now a days.

NIFOG / eNIFOG is only going to give you the Common Interops (IO) not the day-to-day channels used by many agencies on a Regular Basis

AS I and many others have always said - Only YOU are going to know/find what you can listen to/hear by searching yourself, not relying on Databases, what I can hear in my HOOD is not the same as what my buddy 3 towns away can/does hear., yes we both hear some common, but it comes down to Location, Location, Location and your own personal monitoring experience.

As to the "to far away from any Federal Borders - Nope you are incorrect.
Border Patrol - Yes, generally the Borders and outward of ~100 miles
Customs (CBP) is all over the Country, to include International Airports
ICE and HSI - all over the Country

IMHO not 100% true, only someones local/continuous monitoring experience in their local Area, will confirm for their local area

I scan all known fed frequencies in my area as well as dedicate two scanners for searching the VHF and UHF federal bands. You never know what you'll catch in the clear and it's more than most people would probably expect.

You are right. When I scan my local UHF I find data channels all over the place that aren't in the RR database. Even some conventional analog I was getting- like the feed from a TV station in Salt Lake. I acknowledge that old fashioned monitoring is the way to go.

Yes, you are totally correct. There really is still plain analog comms floating around out there.

I set one of my SDS200s to scan the 7 ICE channels in the RR database. After two days, nothing.

I would not rely on solely those 7 National ICE channels.

You are most likely to find ICE on a set local frequencies vs those National Channels, unless there is a MAJOR NSSE event in-town

Two days, even continuously recording, is not enough time. It's not like listening to local public safety/business/aviation/marine stuff.
While valid advice, you missed the context here. OP said there was ICE activity in my local area happening now. My response was to advise that the ICE freqs in RR were not active, either because there was no activity or that the freqs were not being used locally. I was not trying to find them somewhere else. Outside of DEA task force teams, there is not much Federal gov activity in my area, so I don't spend much time there.

So a great confirmation that the ICE event was LOCAL and did not require the additional use of the National Frequencies.
Now for you to find what is local to you... :)
