• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

We are experimenting with a new paging channel while also having to monitor our current paging channel.
I have tried to create two paging channels and put them both in the same scan list and set it on auto scan so that when it is set to either of those channels it goes into auto scan and the one selected is priority. I cannot get any activation from either by tones. If i select "or" instead of "and" and open them up it will alert appropriately but then it is an open monitor situation. Also if i turn off auto scan, each individual channel works as a pager as it should. I've tried quite a few combinations and i cannot get this to work. Is this possible? If so what am i missing or doing wrong?

What type of radios are you using, to try and do this? What type of tone system is being used for alerting?

Generally speaking, a channel programmed for QCII paging will not work if it is accessed via a scan function. Timing is an aspect of the QCII format, and when the radio is scanning it generally enters a channel sending the A tone in the middle of that tone, which then ends too quickly to meet the timing standard. The rule amongst radio techs is that paging channels are set for "disabled" in the scan parameter.

If both channels used the same freq (but different QC tones), you could program the receiver for A-B/C-D, at the cost of losing the ability to decode group tones.

We have a long enough pre-time so that a channel can lock up if it were on scan. If i select "or" instead of "and" it works perfectly. I just can't get a lock-out (sleep) mode where it will still activate. If i select "and" and then press the monitor button and activate tones it works. I'm just trying all possible combinations to see if this is possible.

I've dropped the PL scan lockout option, tried PL scan disabled, and have even gone as far as to make both frequencies CSQ instead of TPL.
