OK, so I just put up a new model scantenna on my roof about 20-25 feet up with the included 50ft feedline. My neighborhood is very tree covered, meaning big spanish oaks and such. I am using an ICOM IC-R20, which by the way is fantastic.
OK, so I must start by saying the R20 has great ears, even with the stock telescoping antenna.
Anyway, I have noticed that in a range of 450-465, the scantenna seems to pick up lots more activity that the stock antenna does not, however on the 442ish range for HAM repeaters, the telescping actually outperformed??
QUESTION....why would that be the case
Airband sensitivity is slightly better on the scantenna, but not a huge difference.
QUESTION...should there be a huge difference?
800MHZ stuff is definately stronger on the scantenna.
QUESTION, are there any other important bands where it may excel?? Am I expectig to much from the scantenna....should I use LMR400??
Thanks!!
