While in Schenectady yesterday, I heard digital transmissions on 460.600 MHz NAC293. SFD dispatch is still analog. Is this Fire Investigation?

Which has nothing to do with the P25 transmissions on the SFD channel this week.

I have been hearing that rumor for a long time. Are there licenses yet? Who has the contract to build it?

You know what? I'm out of here. Between the defensiveness and snobbery of certain admins (in the database forum and other places), the obstruction of someone with inside information providing data to the DB (in the Federal forum), and the general trashing of people with real expertise in the forums, the sharing of information that I personally gather is no longer worth my aggravation.

Sorry to see you go Dave! Your perspective, experience, and technical knowledge will be missed, especially in the NY forum.

Too often in the RR Forum, replies do not address the OP's original question or observation, and contribute little or nothing to the subject at hand. Threads are hijacked, and replies can roam far from the original subject. Realistically though, there are no "qualifications" required to post here. There's no pre-test or application process necessary, and we can't be certain of anyone's technical expertise or background despite what they may say. RR does't request a photo of anyone's diploma as proof of their education, nor a detailed resume as evidence of their technical experience. The closest to a diploma is the existence of an Amateur Radio callsign, which speaks to the knowledge level of the recipient.

In the end, this forum is a composite of all of its members. What we write here is a reflection of who we are and what we believe.

Going to have to respectfully disagree with this point. There are far too many hams out there whose only skill was memorizing the answers to the questions in the Technician pool before they took the exam. One needs only to look as far as some of the members of this very website with amateur call signs attached to their accounts, who ask questions about some of the most basic and fundamental radio topics that they should already be familiar with as a holder of an amateur license. That includes a few Generals and Extras, by the way.

That thought did occur to me too as I recalled some questions from Hams that I would have thought they knew the answer to.

It's social media. You see it all the time. You say it's night out and people will have several arguments why it's not necessarily true. Facebook is the worst. People give legal and medical opinions and whatever with little knowledge of what they're talking about. It's the new modern society I guess.

And so it's important for the recipient of that information to verify what they've read, and to consider the source. On this forum, I can't necessarily tell if the poster is an electrical engineer, designs radio systems, or simply talks like one.

Since Dave has left the building, there's not much sense in continuing this thread.

Sorry to see him go.
