I've had the 536 since very early on, and have had few problems with it. I did send it in for the headphone issue. I upgraded the firmware last week to the latest.

Now all of a sudden today, the scanner is shutting down on me and saying "SD Card Read Error." The latest time, it happened right as I pressed the avoid button.

Any ideas? Should I replace the SD card? Unfortunately I've had it over a year, so I'd probably have to pay if I send it in for service, unless this is a common issue that they are covering?

I'm getting the SD CARD READ ERROR too with my 436HP and the latest firmware .I reverted back to firmware 1.02.07 and they SD card read error went away. I tried 3 different microSD cards and each one would give an error with the latest firmware.

What's strange though is this only started happening today, over a week after updating the firmware.

I can now not have the scanner on for more than 2 minutes or so before it fails, what a disaster. I also have a 436 with updated firmware, and have not experienced this (yet).

Does anyone think a new SD card could fix this?

Just went out and got a new SanDisk 16GB class 10 card. So far so, so good (fingers crossed).

Very happy to report that gently cleaning the micro SD card holder with a Q-tip & alcohol has my 436HP working again without read errors.

This just goes to show that the fix for hitec toys can be very simple and cheap to fix. Reminds me of the public safety mikes for 800 radios when they stop passing audio clean the mike pins with an eraser.
