In my experience, it couldn't hold a candle to the Airspy when monitoring a large amount of spectrum in the presence of strong local signals. Now, I suppose if you drop down to a lower sample rate, that might help. But if you like to use your SDRPlay in 8 mhz mode the way I like to use mine, The Airspy in 10 mhz mode is just as sensitive and can handle strong local signals pounding across the ~8-9 mhz of spectrum with much less effect from strong signals.

Of course, it doesn't help that it's not suported by any trunking programs I use either.

I plug my RTL dongle in before I plug the SDRPlay in.

I have not experienced such difficulties with my SDRplay RSP. Within 3' of where my SDRplay RSP sits and operates, I have my Star Roamer, an antenna rotator control unit, my R75, my Astron PSU and 2 laptops. The RSP (and the R75) are just not phased by all of this at all.
