SDS 100 Help

Hi everyone. I'm trying to program my SDS 100 and am having no luck in hearing Memphis PD, or Collierville PD.

I live in Germantown and no problem hearing GPD, but would really like to hear MPD SCSO CPD.

I've used Sentinel and updated everything and still not receiving.

What part of Germantown are you in? I live close to the western boarder and have trouble picking up Collierville with the rubber duck on my BCD436HP.

I'm just East of Poplar and Exeter. I could never get Collierville, but decided to try the SDS 100 when Memphis went to simulcast. I thought it would be a good move and I'm hoping I'm just overlooking some things.

I didn't have problems with my 436 receiving Memphis, but the simulcast system is the reason I went ahead with the SDS 100

In the Uniden, make sure the services that you want to listen to (police, fire, etc.) are enabled for the system or it won't stop on any talk group. At least that was the case when I scanned with a 436. I use a Unication G5 now and have no issues picking up the system from anywhere in Shelby County. There are around 10 towers throughout the county.

After taking a look at the DB, here is how I would set that one up: program each site as
a separate system. Only include the active control channel for each one.

Working great now thanks ! I'm receiving comms from every precinct, so now if like to figure out how to program individual precincts. Any pointers would be greatly appreciated!

I see the tgid, but would like to see and hold on certain precincts

If all the precincts share a talkgroup (or talkgroups) you will not be able to hold or filter any further. If every precinct has their own talkgroup, then you have options to hold on a channel.

Take the groupings in the database as a starting point then arrange talkgroups into your own customization. Use “Departments” to group precincts. Instead of having one Department for “City X Police”, just separate them out. As “X PD Precinct 1”, “X PD Precinct 2”, etc. This is the way I have done it for years. I even have duplicate Systems with different groupings.

I follow the same method. However, I stack the talk groups specific to the Favorites I create.

Tricks: I have two Favorites for Waco, Texas. One Favorite is called Waco LE routine talk-groups. I have another Favorite for the juicy stuff such as Special Ops, etc.

I always use the NAC code at site in profiles. Most important thing? I put the Favorite number in brackets before the named Favorite. Then, after I download a profile, I can go to the radio menu to see that all of the Favorites loaded.

Give this favorites list file a try. When you first write the file to the scanner. The Shelby Co TN Trunk, TACN Statewide, Bartlett, Collierville, and Shelby Co TN Conv systems will be scanning. The Shelby Co TN Trunk and TACN Statewide will both scan all of the time and cannot be turned off. They include all of the Shelby Co and Memphis talkgroups as well as statewide interop, emergency ops, and TN Highway Patrol. The Shelby Co and Memphis sites will scan all of the time. The Millington site can be turned on and off by dept/site quick key 10 for activity in the northern area of the county. For the TACN Statewide system, the TACN Memphis THP site will be scanning all of the time. The Arlington site can be turned on and off by dept/site quick key 10 for activity in the northern area of the county. I turned off departments 6, 7, 8, & 9 in the Shelby Co TN Conv system. The amateur radio, railroad, VHF marine band, and Memphis Airport frequencies will tie up a lot of your scanning time. You can turn any of them on and off by dept quick keys. To turn any quick keys on and off, you must be scanning. While scanning the Shelby County TN favorites list, you can toggle a system on and off by pressing the decimal point button once followed by the system quick key number followed by E. To toggle a dept/site quick key on and off, press the SYSTEM button to hold on the system where you want to make a change. Press the decimal point button twice followed by the dept/site quick key number followed by E. Do not turn off all of the departments in a system. You will need to go into the scanner menu to get the system working again.

Save the attached zipped file to your computer and extract. Go to the File tab in Sentinel and click on Import from hpe file (Favorites List). Click on New Favorites List and name it: Shelby County TN Click on OK. In the Downloads folder, open the extracted file. It will appear as a favorites list in Sentinel. Quick keys as follows:

It would be to your advantage to add a quick key to the favorites list. Once you have imported the file into Sentinel, open it in the favorites list editor. Click on the favorites list and the Options tab. Set FL quick key to 0. Save the file and exit the favorites list editor. With a quick key assigned to the favorites list, it makes things a little easier working with system, dept, and site quick keys. You will not need to go into the menu in the event you turn off all of the departments in a system. I will give you some more info on that in the future. To toggle a favorites list on and off, press the FL quick key number followed by E. Remember, you must be scanning when making any changes to quick keys.
