any legitimate places to find one of these used?
The classifieds don't seem to be too active and I'm a little hesitant to try ebay.
I know they're pricey but saving a little cash would be cool.

The classifieds here, and eBay are your best bets. There's one on eBay, bidding at $407 with 3 days left on the auction. You could almost infer that most people who buy them keep them, rather than selling them. You see a lot more posts about "selling scanner X to buy an SDS" than the other way around.

You'd be hard pressed to even find them on ebay, those few that pop up tend to go at or near $600 anyhow, IMO better off buying new. Once its successor comes out they will flood ebay, that might take awhile, certainly won't happen in the foreseeable future.

I got mine from zip scanners, reputable outfit and they offer lifetime support. Some folks like buying them from home depots/walmarts believe it or not, because they allegedly offer a 90 day return window.

Having owned about all scanners made since the crystal radios, I can tell you the SDS100 and 200 are very good radios.
Buy it from a seller of scanner radios.

I bought the SDS200 and I paid for all 3 upgrades (DMR-Provoice-NXDN) and I was thinking of selling it for $600 to someone local of the Philadelphia area. Still unsure if I do want to sell but holidays are coming up and money is tight. If I do, I’m firm on price

If you have decent credit apply for the Chase Freedom card (not the unlimited version). If you spend $500 within the first three months of getting the card you get $200 cash back and you get 0% interest for 15 months allowing you to pay it off slower with no interest charges. Plus if you use their payment system for this quarter you get another 5% off your purchases,

You can use their payment system (don't recall what it's called) with Walmart but you will end up paying sales tax. However with Walmart you get a 90 day return period. Other places won't charge tax but you also don't get the 5% because they aren't one of the merchants that you can use the Chase payment system with and you will only get a 14 to 30 day return window. Depending on your state's rate of sales tax, it is almost a wash or a few dollars more to get a 90 day return window.

I have one that I can consider selling you....bought it for " i want that" to just sitting on my desk....threw the box away it came in ....works as it should, been in a canvas case since day one, has programming cord and the original duck antenna and a diamond antenna that I sanded down a bit on the exterior to fit fully in the screw-down.....make a fair offer plus $ 20.00 to ship and ill send it to you....

My personal experience with HRO is they DON"T stand by their products, and I would never give them another dime! Bearcat Warehouse again in my personal opinion is TOP of the line.

Update to my post above since the time lmit to edit it has expires. The 5% category for this quarter is Chase Pay or PayPal. So if you go through ScannerMaster or Bearcat Warehouse they don't charge sales tax and accept PayPal.

The price for a new SDS100 would be $650 - 5% = $617.50 - $200 cashback = $417.50.

If you go through Walmart you can get an extra 1% off by linking through a cashback site rakuten, formerly ebates.

If you want any of the Digital upgrades buy them through Uniden for $50 to $60 vs $75 to $85 from the scanner sellers.

Note, Scanner Master requires you to pay return shipping if you return a non-defective scanner within 30 days. Walmart gives you a free prepaid return shipping label and lets you return it to the store for free.

From their website - "Defective items may be returned for an exchange, return or upgrade within 10 days of the purchase date. Non-defective items returned within 10 days for credit or refund will be subject to a minimum 15% re-stocking fee".

So you have zero days to return it if you don't like it without paying a 15% re stocking fee of $97.50 on an SDS100. If it goes defective on day 11 you are out of lock and have to deal with Uniden's warranty service where you pay to ship it to them for repair.

Who would buy from them?

Bearcat Warehouse gave me a new battery out of their stock for my SDS100, I was very happy. HRO is a Kenwood issue, it's on it's way to Kenwood as I type, and they(HRO) were notified within 10 days. My opinion is MINE HRO SUCKS!

This is true. I returned a defective TRX-1 to Bearcat Warehouse a couple of years ago and they would not provide a return shipping label. As much as I’d like to support smaller dealers, I now only buy scanners from Amazon Prime sellers. Every one of the smaller scanner dealers have tons of red tape and exclusions on returns. I won’t deal with that potential headache again. Not when Amazon, Walmart, HD will accept a return no questions asked and without fees.
