Hi all. Ive seen a couple questions regarding the display screen, but none match my issue. I recently purchased two SDS 200 radios. I do my own programming with Butel software. Have had some type of Scanner since I was 10. ok. I'm 56 now. So I programmed both radios. One is in my house. The other I had installed in my truck. I bench tested them both for a few days, and both worked fine. The one in my house is fine. The one in my truck, the display after a few minutes goes into seizure mode. I cant put a name on it. It gets really jumpy and squiggly. It receives fine. But the display screen is whacked. The installer used the same wiring harness as the P 992 that was in the truck. It was the same hook up. So,,,anyone else have this issue? Or is this radio bad? I really dont want to remove it and send it back. Any thoughts.
Thank you.

Does it do the same if you take that radio out of the vehicle and run it in the house? If it does not you may being hit with rf interference from your vehicles numerous computers and systems. Just as the fcc sticker indicates this unit must not cause any interference but must accept any interference from other sources.

Hi,,I have not yet removed the unit from my vehicle. I am somewhat challenged in that my left arm and hand dont work so well. Before I ask someone to remove it, I figured Id ask the question here. I dont doubt it may be an electrical or computer issue in the truck. It is a 2017 GMC Sierra. Loaded

It is really important to isolate the issue. To do that you need to put it back in the house and see if the screen is once again fine. Maybe put your other SDS200 in your truck and see if the same thing happens. Nobody here can give you a definitive answer to the problem by just reading your post. Yes, some have reported screen issues with the SDS200, but they are different from what you are describing. Good luck. I hope you get the help you need.

If you can get to the power leads w/o full uninstall, you might be able to just swap out to off-vehicle power and run the scanner w/the vehicle off. Could be easier. I am suspecting, though that the ribbon cable going to the LCD might have partially unseated, which would be a repair issue.

What is the source of your power in your truck? Where is it connected? Cigar Lighter and some under-the-dash connections DO NOT provide enough current, in some cases. The fact that it worked for the P 992 does not necessarily mean that it will work for the SDS 200.

BEST powerconnections are always directly to battery and FUSED.

Might be easier to bring the other one out and temporarily try with the lighter plug. That would confirm external RFI. Also to try different antenna as a just in case.

I had the P992 intalled when I bought the vehicle two years ago by a local Whelen distributer. They also installed lights for me. Im going to presume they did the install correctly. Like I said, when I had them swap this one in, we didnt change the wiring harness because the old one fit the 200. I dont think that would cause an issue, but Ill look into it as well.

Yes,, that is how I have it wired. It is on without the key being on.

Hi all, after doing research and contacting Scannermaster, seeing as this unit was less than a month in my possesion, they honored their return policy. This unit is on its way back to Scannermaster, and a new one will be sent to me. They will send this one to Uniden in Texas. If anyone else has a similar issue, feel free to post to this thread.
