So if I turn location control on for that new FL and range 5 mile. My zip code circle and any corresponding site that intersects my circle will be scanned. Correct?

Yes. But you can set quick keys to turn off things otherwise enabled by location control. If you can actually receive multiple counties, you may want to turn range up to 10 or 15 miles, but that will mean more stuff to manually toggle with quick keys.

Here where I am located. Southport Indiana. I live dead center of my zip code. I can hear law and fire from 5 surrounding counties!!
Marion, Hendricks,Johnson,Morgan,Shelby and Hancock.
I am going to send my sds100 to you this spring (when peak scanner season is over for me 😏)
But until then... should I use zip code, auto find , or actual gps coordinates with my 10-15 mi range?

Actual GPS coordinates are best. Auto locate is the least accurate.
