Have a BCD436, really great. Go back to analog scanning when I had a GRE, Radio Shack and even a Sony scanner. Wondering why at the price of the SDS100 and SDS200 they don't just include NXDN, DMR, etc instead of making it optional, Whistler includes them in the price. I definitely like Uniden products over Whistler but seems Whistler is more consumer friendly in that respect and offering upgrades for the Radio Shack scanner instead of just saying buy one of ours.

The reason Uniden charges for upgrades has been posted quite a bit on the forums.

Thanks, clicked on the link and found out why, licensing.
With my old analog scanners which started out with the 10 channel Bearcat 100 was able to program what I wanted but when everything went to trunked systems I got lost on how to program with control channels. With my BCD436 it became enjoyable just putting in my zip code or county. Would it be a real upgrade for me to go for the SDS100 or 200. Also would DMR, NXDN and PROVOICE be used just entering the zip code. Again thank you.

Once you get the DMR, MXDN and/or Provoice upgrades, the zip code search will pick them up if it comes across one. Of course, the main question is whether the database is filled with accurate information. If the systems are listed properly, they will work fine.
