I recently purchased a SDS100 (used). I’ve noticed that the lower third of the screen is rather bright and it gets darker the further up the screen you go. Is this a normal characteristic of the SDS100? Or should I include that on the repair ticket when I send it in.

Also, when the scanner starts getting warm it goes deaf. In other words it may stop on a channel and you might hear a blip of the traffic then the audio just stops. Now, I know that’s not how it should operate…but has anyone else had that issue.

I haven't heard of either situation before. Assuming it is out of warranty, I believe there is a flat fee to send it to Uniden that would fix whatever ails it. I don't recall the amount as I have not had to go that route.

The scanner was bought used therefore no warranty. I’m not concerned about the cost to fix it. Just curious if the screen lighting I described is normal or if that should be jaded to the repair request when I get around to sending it I.

Sure...why not, it's a flat $90 fee. Write down everything you think is wrong with it and have it repaired.

I just went through the repair process with my SDS100 as well. They had to replace a control board and the battery, which was all included in the $89 repair fee. Just be aware, they seem to be backed up since it took 2.5 months to get mine back. Period calls to get a status update seemed to move things along quicker.

I’m not too bothered by the time frame it may take. I won’t be out a scanner. I also use a 436HP whisk runs smoothly. After the SDS eventually gets sent in ajd the returned I’ll be sending the 436 in to get the gps fixed

The display is lit from the bottom, but it should not be noticeably dimmer toward the top. It sounds like a misaligned display board.

The unit does run warm but should not lose sensitivity. If it is only losing audio, that could be an issue in the headphone jack. If it is losing sensitivity (you mentioned both issues) then that could be an antenna issue or something else.

I would agree the repair fee is well worth it in this case.

I just received my scanner back from repair for this screen issue and the LCD display was replaced, but the same issue is there. It's obviously more than a LCD Display issue. Case#2208

from what I’ve been researching this appears to be the way the screen is on the SDS100. But idk. I’ve thought about maybe selling this at some point and just buying a new one. Primarily so I don’t have to deal with Uniden’s repair. Despite the fact that I’ll have to deal with them if I get the GPS port fixed on my 436.

This is my 3rd SDS-100 and it is very noticeable because my other 2 don't have this issue

Yeppers. At a time that the radio is in such demand and given the various issues that could be possibly present, you're likely to spend the money you saved buying used on... Repair. Very sorry to hear this happened to you.

Honestly…used or new…still likely to happen. I don’t have faith that a product is going to work properly without issue until I’ve had it for several months with no issue. If it were just the screen I wouldn’t care. But the other issues mentioned in original post is my main issue.

After Uniden changing my LCD screen twice, the problem has been fixed. I'm guessing there was a batch of bad LCD screens floating around.

You can compare these photo's to my earlier post #8

Since the light does not come from the LCD screen, it was probably another issue.

Regardless, glad it fixed.

Sent my SDS100 in for repairs. It was delivered at Uniden today. My question is…do they email you once they receive it and it’s in their system? If so, How long does that take for them to acknowledge they received it.

Got the SDS 100 back today. Only one of the two items on my notes was addressed. They addressed the signal issues which appears to be fixed. Their repair notes say that replaced a solder joint. However I also mentioned that the light board was not working properly as the botttom line of the screen was very bright and it’s noticeably darker as you go up the screen. Does @UnidenSupport cover the fees to send this back for repairs or is the customer responsible to fix it again when it should’ve been done the first time

..."I’ll be sending the 436 in to get the gps fixed..."

The GPS is external to the 436.
Just to clarify, you have a broken USB port causing your GPS to not work?
Is one or more pins on the miniUSB port bent?

Anything else and it wouldn't be the 436 itself needing fixing - or it doesn't need to be sent in to fix.
