I have my backlight down very low and it pops on at night when a transmission occurs but then goes off after the set time.....

This is OK but is there a trick anywhere where I can disable the backlight at night but can easily be turned on with a keystroke or push on the volume knob?

Thanks for any suggestions!

In profile, under display options tab:
Squelch light: off
Keypress light: 15/30/60/120 sec
External power: backlight off
Yes....have that set....I want it to be OFF (because the other setting that you speak of, turns the light on during a transmission)(for for daytime battery reserve).

I want it to be off UNLESS I initiate it to be on w/o going into settings....

Probably not an option but if there is such a thing....you guys will know!

Does the 100 dim and turn off display the same as the 200? Three knob pushes on 200 and display is off. One push its back on..

What I just listed turns it off unless you touch a key then it comes in for specified number of seconds.

Maybe just turn the scanner facing away from you? Then the audio gets a bit lower and the backlight doesn't disturb you and when you want to listen and look at the display you turn the scanner with the display facing you.

If you want a remote of some kind to not have to stretch your arm that far you can use a switch for the mains power to the 5V wall wart to power the scanner, or even a IR remote control under your pillow to activate an electronic mains switch. You then configure the display to be off with battery power and to light up permanently with external power.

If you need external power to make the scanner run all night without the battery go dead you can then power the scanner using 5V to the upper micro USB connector to permanently power your scanner without it taking any battery power. It will still be display controlled from the lower mini USB connector.

The scanner facing away does work but then I have to put it on my nightstand. I've got a thing that holds the scanner (made for a car) and hook onto the head board and if I face it away it will really be difficult to see the display especially at night IF there is a need. BTW it is powered with usb cable in top port...no charge just power but she is warm in the morning....

It's the SDR receiver chip that gets warm from handling all the data processing of the RF signal.

Then you can add a switchable power supply to the lower port, either a manual switch on its mains cable or a remote controlled.
There's IR movement detectors for mains power you can use and set its sensitivity to not react to when you move and turn around in your bed and only when you hold up your arm. There are also timers to use in those IR detectors that switch off that mains power after a suitable amount of minutes. You will have a range of options if looking at different devices and solutions at Amazon or other places.

How can I find out more? If I'm understanding you correctly, it now makes sense as to why sometimes when the screen has timed out and gone dark, when I move my hand to pick up the scanner the display lights up.

Hey Dave.....I did actually look at the 100 manual but forgot about the "Easy to Read" because I had downloaded it years ago with my 200 and forgot all about it.....

I don't see it in the Easy 2 Read manual.....a little help?
Post #2. My backlight stays off unless I press a key. It’s not a guess, it’s a fact.

Now making it come on and stay with a push of a button is the challenge. Maybe quick press of power button? Not sure.

I have a question is there anyway to turn the charging led off completely? I like to leave it on my nightstand and the red/ green charge status drives us crazy during the night. Not a fan of just laying the unit down to block it.

Thanks
