Post #2. My backlight stays off unless I press a key. It’s not a guess, it’s a fact.
Would think something in here. I only have the 200 and can have the light completely off at night. Honestly think the 100 should be able to do the same.

It does stay off.....unless I press a key (great!), BUT it comes on with every transmission.....THAT'S THE PROBLEM....I wanted it to STAY OFF unless I Hit a Button....period but it also comes on with a new transmission.
OK....if set the "Squelch" setting to OFF a new transmission does NOT turn on the backlight (yea!!!!) and a key-press will turn on the backlight on for the time set then go off and not come back on w/o my key-press!!!

Success.....you all finally helped me understand what I was reading.....never thought about the "Squelch" setting!

I have a question is there anyway to turn the charging led off completely? I like to leave it on my nightstand and the red/ green charge status drives us crazy during the night. Not a fan of just laying the unit down to block it.

Thanks
Yes....use the top USB port to power....Of course it will not charge but you can charge with the lower USB during the day if needed....
Hopefully this will help if I understand your question correctly....It won't charge so there will be no led charging indicator
I'm trying to get away from charging from the radio power source and hopefully spare batter/external chargers will be on sale during prime days :p
Now making it come on and stay with a push of a button is the challenge. Maybe quick press of power button? Not sure.
All good now since I found the "Squelch" setting for the battery charging settings

THANKS TO ALL!

Thanks thought so but guess it will be sent to the kitchen over night.
Presuming that your scanner is normally reasonably charged, and that in the morning you might reconnect it to charge, why not power it overnight via the upper (micro-usb) port instead of the lower mini port, unless you have it connected to a pc for remote control via ProScan or ARC536? That will run the scanner without charging the battery.

You could also just toggle off the ‘charge while on’ setting overnight, then reset that back to “on” so that it will charge while connected during the day.

(I see comments about using the upper port were added after I started typing.)

The upper port works great. Problem with using the lower is that if you have it set to shut off after some time you select the charging light will come on. Battery charging is not an issue for me as I have a spare battery in a charger ready to always ready to go.
