While using the NC Viper or VA Stars systems, I usually like to program all talkgroups so that I hear everything. This used to be called "wildcard" on some of the older Whistler/Radioshack radios. This has worked well for me with the relatively little traffic in my area.

However, there are times when a particular talkgroup becomes chatty. In this case, the local solid waste talkgroup is very active in the wake of Christmas. Is there a way to temporarily avoid talkgroups as I might do with a specific frequency via the "avoid" button on the bottom left of the scanner face? I'd like to silence them during my current scanner session, but have them available during my next session. I suppose I could create a favorite and divide that using the system/department sublists, but that's less than ideal.

You could also toggle the service type associated with the solid waste. Probably public works. Then if you decide you want to hear it, you wont have to power cycle the scanner to release the temp avoids.

Wow, talk about over-thinking it. The manual made it seem too easy. Thanks guys!

dave3825, thanks for the tip. For some reason I thought that only worked with the full database enabled.
