Just purchased a gently used SDS100. Works fine and was programmed for a local county. Charges fine with included cable, so I'm assuming the cable is good. Installed Sentinel on my pc and did the software updates. However, the pc does not recognize the scanner as a drive when I connect it.
Cable is plugged into the "charge" port on the scanner.
Turn scanner on and when prompted press the "Yes" key and the scanner shows Mass Storage mode.
The red charging light comes on the scanner so the cable is plugged in to a working USB port on the pc.
Go into file manager on the pc and the scanner does not show up as a "drive".

Have the manual and the easy to read manual, but they are no help.

What else can I try? Thank you.

You are using the USB Mini jack (hat-shaped), right? If so, perhaps you're using a charge-only USB chord?

What version of Windows are you running, and do you have .net 2.0 installed?
He said Sentinel is running, and downloading updates, so I'd assume yes, he got .NET Framework 3.0/3.5 (which includes 2.0) installed.

Turn scanner on and when prompted press the "Yes" key and the scanner shows Mass Storage mode.
I assume it was only Sentinel itself that you updated and not the scanner, as you otherwise then also could program the scanner.
As the scanner asks if it should do serial or mass storage mode then cable are recognized and programming should also work fine.

What PC is this, model and what OS? Try another USB port as each port have their own unique drivers it is using.

After you tell it msm, what shows in Device Manager?

Sorry for the delay, had company all day. Try to answer all the questions here. And THANK YOU for the suggestions.
Running Windows 11 Home edition.
Using the mini jack, same as used for charging.
PC is a Dell all in one, only about a year old.
Yes, I did the Sentinel software updates
After I tell it msm, it does not appear in device manager.
Tried different USB ports on the pc
Only 1 cable came with the scanner, and it works fine for charging. Should there be a different cable for data?
When in msm, the red charge light did come on. Normal?

Again, thanks for the help, I really appreciate it. And yes, there is a learning curve.

Along the lines of Ubbe's suggestion, you might try cycling power on the computer. Some software may have captured the port your computer is using.

Recheck all cable connections.

It's a pain, but if you have a card reader, try removing the SD card from the scanner and use a card reader to read it.

On my SDS100E the red light comes on as soon as the cable are connected, as it starts to charge, but when switching to msm the red light goes out. As soon as the cable are pulled the scanner reboots.

I have a Win11 laptop where I've never connected a scanner but tried it now. It makes some ding dong sounds and when doing windows key+ E I see a D: drive with the scanners SD card.

When I connect the scanner to the pc, the red charge light comes on. It goes off when I press YES for the msm and stays off. Look under file manager and the scanner does not appear as another drive.

Scanner reboots when I disconnect the cable. I'm guessing then that it is a bad cable?

Better to buy direct from Uniden or Amazon okay?

PROBLEM SOLVED!!

Looked at the Common Scanner Questions on the Uniden site. One of the questions is, "My device is not being detected by the software when attempting to update its firmware/database." Turns out my USB ports were not updated, even though I have automatic updtaes turned on and it does update. Computer is turned off every night so restart is not an issue.

After updating the USB ports, the scanner is recognized, firmware updated and restarted. Now to learn some of the programming portions.

Thank you again for your suggestions and advice. I'm sure I'll have some more :)
