Thanks for replying. I was not clear, my bad. In custom search mode does the sds 100 stop on a CC display System ID, Site number and pass audio? My 996 does this well and of course the x36’s do not. Has anyone fortunate enough to get an early version tried this on the NJ systems? Thanks!

When you land on a control channel in search mode, the unit shows this (no audio, but it does mute the raw control audio!):

That is just beautiful. A picture IS worth a thousand words. Getting more difficult to wait as each day goes by. Thanks to all the early adopters sharing feedback and of course Paul (Upman) for development work. Gotta move on from x36 woes. Thanks W2SJW

You're welcome! If there is anything else you'd like to see on the unit, just let me know.

Is there a way to customize it to show System, Talkgroup (alternating with ID Scanning) and then UID. I’m looking for something like:
NJICS W ORANGE
NEWARK FIRE 1 (or ID Scanning)
ENGINE-33

I’m not used to the Agency, Department etc. setup. It looks like the UID can only be displayed very small.

The System/Department/Channel fields are set functions (cannot be changed). So, short answer is no. But, you can put that other information in any of many other places on the display.

Btw has anyone with the SDS100 noticed an increase in range on the NJSP system or any older Motorola system?

Increase? How so? SP already has very good coverage AFAIA.

I live in Ringwood, so the site is right there...

Well I live in Camden County about a mile from the Burlington County line with no cell towers or other sources of interference around. As it were I have a very difficult time getting Troop C on my 436 and other scanners until I get on the other side of the Pine Barrens. My 436 can start hitting Troop B from around Westampton which is great. I just want to see can the SDS100 pull in those weak signals as good or better than other scanners.

Oh. You’re ALL the way down...makes sense then. Especially that area.

I would imagine so. Hopefully someone from your area can help.

All over the map.
Just made it home from the road trip. Started receiving the NJICS West Orange Simulcast near Lamington on I-78 really weak. By Warren it was still weak, but it was decoding the simulcast better than anything else ever has out there for me. By Summit, I had to start entering avoids, it was so consistent. I'm impressed. Marked improvement over my other Unidens.

As to the NJICS Union County Simulcast, I notice no difference so far between the SDS100, BCD436HP, and HP2. But I think that's a reflection of Union County Communications' technical abilities rather than the scanners. Never really ever had an LSM issue on the UC site.

All the above were monitored on a Larsen Tri-Band, hole mounted on the roof of my truck, running regular old RG58, all units powered by rechargables.

Was going to make a video of the Morris County system, but there’s not a lot going on at the moment. I’ll try for a video another time. So for now, a picture will have to do.

Both radios are using the stock antenna. The 436 barely shows any signal at all. The SDS100 is a solid full bar signal.

My house is in West Caldwell, and on NJICS both radios are excellent.
On the Wayne system, the Results are the same as with Morris County. The SDS100 is the clear winner.

Much appreciated Mark. Could you do a live vid of Wayne P25? I know you said it’s solid, but seeing and hearing that system clear would be a MIRACLE. That one system alone would do it for me.

P25 simulcast performance tests:

Somerset County - recorded in northern Manville, all 3 trunk systems. Performance was outstanding, signal pinned the scale on both P25 sites:

Morris County - recorded at the north end of the ITC South in Budd Lake. At that altitude, I had to be receiving multiple towers:

Thanks for the videos! Call me picky. I notice a little bit of garble in the second video. It's slight. Youre well within the footprint of the system. The first video performance was flawless!

Yes, I'm extremely happy with the Somerset County systems on this unit now.

Somerset was recorded with the RS 800MHz antenna on the unit, Morris with my stubby 3" UHF antenna. I probably should have tested with the full 6" UHF 1/4-wave one, but what fun would that be? ;)

Also, most of the slight garble seems to be on units in the field, not the dispatchers. Don't even ask me what the deal was with that one Mt. Olive unit...

Thank you for the Somerset County video! Answers all my questions. Thanks Uniden.
