On the SDS100, you have Replay and Record options. When using the 240 Second replay, for example, why cant you save it like the recordings? They are clearly stored in memory for the replay, so wouldn't it make sense to be able to export it to SD card without using the recording option?

Look in the SD card folders "audio" ---> "inner_rec".

The point to understand is that they are saved to the card temporarily, as the time lapses they are deleted.
Unless you initiate the record option which permanently saves them. That's the difference.

Yeah. I understand that. I just thought it would be nice to be able to save replays so you don't always have to start recording manually. But I did just realize that recording automatically starts with the scanner, if previously set. So that works just as well. I just didn't want to waste time starting and stopping recordings manually. But ive only had this scanner for a few weeks, So im still learning the bells and whistles.

A nice feature, UPMan where clever when he designed operational functions, are that if you always have that 240 sec replay going you can start a manual recording and it will permanently save all previous 240 sec of conversations.

So, if I have replay mode enabled (I currently have it set to 90 secs), and I start a recording, it'll save the previous 90 seconds to the card, and also keep recording live?

If you manually start recording activity, then, yes, the scanner will add any previous recordings in the "Replay" folder (name on the SD card is "inner_rec", inside the audio folder) to the "user_rec" folder, which stores audio files from manually recording. When manually recording, Replay is not accessible.

Two similar but different functions/features.

Replay is there so you can answer the question "What did they just say?" Kind of an instant going back and listening again to something you just heard. It is time limited and thus doesn't take up much space.

Recording is a separate feature. It is something used when you want to record what is being said, but you are unable to listen to the scanner.

Retrieving something via Reply is a quick button press task. Recording takes a little more time searching back through a number of transmissions.

Thanks, I managed to get it =) This dispatcher sounds like she should be on one of those late-night hotlines :D

I can't understand a word she's saying, perhaps Cleveland at the end, but then english are not my native language. The digital audio quality are terrible. I'm listening now to the english spoken marine time reports in analog with a 50% background hiss and there's no problem to understand every word she says.

When digital Tetra systems where introduced in Europe 25 years ago the algorithm for voice processing where optimized for male voices and when a woman used the system it sounded similar to what can be heard in the above Youtube example. Over time the algorithm have been perfected and now have close to HiFi like voice quality. The only problem I note are Arabic voices that has a lot of sound coming from the back of the throat that doesn't come out as sounding natural. I can hear that they need to repeat a lot of what are being said over radio that doesn't happen to other languages being used in the same system. If any Tetra systems are being sold to the middle east countries then they will need to work a bit more on the voice algorithm.

Something about "transporting Cleveland Heights metro". That was just a little clip, but overall, she was coming through pretty clearly.

Interesting about the voice processing stuff. I do a lot of listening on the HAM HF bands, and sometimes voice quality is great, but for the most part, it's a challenge. So, compared to that, most of the stuff coming in over my SDS100 sounds much better.
