Hello I thinking about upgrading my Sd card in my SDS150, is it possible to just copy and paste the old cards data using Windows explorer, I'm just not sure exactly what to do, Any advice would be greatly appreciated

From the easier to read manual. Be sure you have the most up to date programming in Sentinel (Scanner > Read from Scanner) before doing the following:

| SD cards should only be formatted using the special SD Card Formatter. Cards up to 32GB are supported. After formatting, the scanner may not be automatically detected (since it is wiped clean), so you may need to uncheck "Hide empty drives" (in Windows 7) Tools>Folder Options>View before doing the next "Clear User Data" step. Then, you need to go into Sentinel and navigate to "Scanner > Clear User Data" and check "Display all drives" using Sentinel to restore all files and directories to the card. You will also need to "Write to Scanner" in the "Scanner" menu to restore your Favorites Lists. |

Probably, but I would use sentinel to prepare and write to a new card.

I just swapped out the 8GB SD card my SDS150 came with for a 32GB high performance one and all I did was copy/paste the folder from the old to the new SD card. Working fine here so far.
That's what I was planning on doing,

For my SDS100. I first downloaded, the data on my SDS100. To my PC, then. I replaced my 8GB with a 32GB, then. I uploaded the data from my PC. Presto!! No need to copy/paste to a new directory.

I do have a question. I have never replaced an SD card before. I do have a new 32GB Samsung card. In transferring data from PC to card....Do I need a card reader/writer to transfer the data? I use Butel software so I imagine that I could just transfer the data from Butel to the new card? I know this may sound pretty basic but I and not very computer savvy. Thanks in advance.

You can do this without an external card reader, though a reader makes it somewhat easier & faster.
Install the new card in the scanner.
Connect the scanner to your PC & put it into "Mass Storage Mode when prompted.
Using Sentinel, use the "Clear User Data" option from the drop-down scanner menu,
That will initialize the card for use by the scanner,
You can then use Sentinel to download Favorites lists to the scanner, You could also use the Butel software to load your lists.

Thanks. I will try it again. Maybe I wasn't doing in the correct order. When I put the new card in and connected it to the PC...when I turned the scanner on...I never got the "'mass storage"' prompt. Since there was nothing for the scanner to read....it just kept turning on and off repetitively.......I'll try again...thanks.

So I can't get Sentinal to recognize the scanner. I unchecked "'hide hidden drives"' and checked "'display all drives"' in the "'clear user data"' but nothing. I had this same problem updating the firmware when I first got the scanner. I finally got it to work but don't ask me how. A card reader is looking better and better.

If the scanner doesn’t prompt you to choose Mass Storage or Serial Port, it could be an issue with the USB cable. USB cables can either be charging only or data-transfer. Sounds like you have a charging only cable and you would need a data-transfer USB cable. Also, a card reader would work as well. Until the scanner goes into mass storage, unchecking hidden drives and checking display all drives won't do any good as the scanner and computer aren't talking to each other.

Yes....the scanner will not go into mass storage mode. I guess since it's a blank card with nothing to read, the scanner just cycles on....then back off repeatedly. This is with it connected to the PC/Sentinel. I did get a card read error at one point ( I think because I was putting the card back in when it cycled on ), and menu stated go to "clear user data" but again, wouldn't recognize the scanner, most likely because I got the card read error and not mass storage prompt. In any event. an Acer card reader on the way from Amazon. Also the cable was the one supplied with the scanner. Thanks.

That could be. For curiosity, I popped the SD card out of my scanner and tried to connect it to the computer and instantly got a "SD Card Error" message. So, sounds like you'll need a card reader to at least get the new SD card setup. Sorry.

Yeah....what I figured. Nothing is ever easy anymore. Now I hope I can get my favorites from Butel to the card. It should be easy but.........

Fair enough. I wasn’t trying to disagree or convince you otherwise. Just wanted to share what I liked.
When I went with a 32GB in my SDS100, I:
- Formatted the card using the Sentinel utility.
- Uploaded the scanner image using Sentinel, storing the image on my laptop.
- Swapped out the OEM card for the 32GB blank card.
- Downloaded the scanner image I'd just made into the scanner (card) and let that run.
And Bob's your uncle - I think I was done with the whole process inside of 30 minutes, most of the time spend waiting for up/down loading to finish. I do not recall if I had to restart Sentinel when I plugged the scanner back in, but I'm fairly sure I did it anyway. Once you have the image uppde to your computer, it exists as an independent file, and you have to go find it and delete it if you want to get quit of it.
I would imagine the process is similar for the SDS150 and SDS200 (and any other SDS-series Uniden comes out with.)
