I have returned here after pursuing a life of religious fulfillment.

Great job Staic Discharge finding the true cause and fix for the hum. Amazing how the cause and fix is presented to Uniden on a silver platter yet they still refuse to do anything about it and the thread is moved from the tech support group where it belongs to the Tavern.

I have lost interest in buying the SDS200 after all this, seeing that Uniden doesn't care even when its main users are here giving them the fix for free.

Yeah but (gosh, I'm gonna go broke throwing my 2 cents around as often as I do...) with the fix applied, in a simulcast area with DMR and VHF/UHF all snuggled into one scanner I have to say this thing rocks..
Some day I will omit the VHF/UHF and use an older analog for that but for now.. I cannot complain.. (And even if I did, Uniden wouldn't listen!!)...

Yet you are still here replying with message #451. Lol.

He does that quite often...

I just bought another SDS-200 radio and it was completely brand new and still had the HUM noise. I did the perm fix and no more issues again.

Glad it works for you!!
Happy scanning!!!

(There's another HINT for ya Uniden!!)

Do you know if the unit was of recent manufacture? I've been considering buying an SDS-200, but the hum issue gives me pause. I had hoped new production units wouldn't exhibit the problem.

This was a brand new radio. I would not wait or pause. Just do the fix yourself and be done with it and enjoy. By the time Uniden gets around to figuring things out we could all be dead and gone and left with no enjoyment.

Yes this is sort of a work around and taking away 90 percent of the HUM is good but doing the perm fix is well worth the try since it will get rid of the HUM all together at a 100 percent. the 10 percent HUM kept driving me crazy too. It's just nice having a radio now without completely no HUM now. Very enjoyable.

Dang the hum came back than went away for a mint than came back.

Yes Sir. This is what drove me crazy time and time again. It would go away at like 90 percent and then I would have to keep squeezing the outer case and then it would almost go away and then it would come back with the HUM noise. Just do the fix and then you will be good.

I remember weeks ago when the Uniden rep here (not Upman) said he was taking the findings about the grounding issue to the engineers. This was before Static Discharge found the real cause and fix. Never heard anything. Now Static Discharge has the real fix and still nothing.

I really think UpMan is the driving force for the scanner division for Uniden. It seems like since he is out on medical leave the whole scanner division goes quiet. No firmware updates or Software updates. No new news about anything.

Which shows what a poorly run company Uniden is.

Well you have to give Upman credit as he is battling cancer and is the driving force of the scanner division for Uniden. All we can do is hope for the best for him and get some more updates and firmware soon down the road. Just have to be really patient and be good people during this battle for him. Just have to be sensitive during this quiet time for Uniden.

Just got my sds200 Friday. No hum. When the room is totally silent at night, I can hear a slight pulsing noise as it scans. Reminds me of the sound the big spinning wheel makes on The Price is Right. This is normal, right? I hear NO noise or hum during a transmission. It's a great radio. Sounds really good to me.

So this is Dec 15, and my serial # is 384Z98002698, with a barcode below with # 00E01112128BD. I'm guessing this is a very high serial number. Has anyone determined the a sertain range of serial numbers indicate a factory fix? I bought it from webtron-x who said they sell 80 per month so I expect this is a recent build. Any decoding of these numbers available to indicate a build date? Thanks,

Geno
