The noise you are describing is the "hum" / hash that some people report as data is written to the display. When audio is being played through the radio's internal speaker, the noise disappears into the background because less data is being written to the screen, and the voice / audio level overwhelms it (audio Signal to Noise ratio is high.) You have to decide for yourself if the noise when squelched is objectionable in a quiet room. My SDS has this type of noise, but since the ambient noise in my listening environment is comparatively loud, the noise is inaudible.Just got my sds200 Friday. No hum. When the room is totally silent at night, I can hear a slight pulsing noise as it scans. Reminds me of the sound the big spinning wheel makes on The Price is Right. This is normal, right? I hear NO noise or hum during a transmission. It's a great radio. Sounds really good to me.
So this is Dec 15, and my serial # is 384Z98002698, with a barcode below with # 00E01112128BD. I'm guessing this is a very high serial number. Has anyone determined the a sertain range of serial numbers indicate a factory fix? I bought it from webtron-x who said they sell 80 per month so I expect this is a recent build. Any decoding of these numbers available to indicate a build date? Thanks,
Geno
The display processing system is probably still writing data even when the physical display is turned off. The noise being generated is leaking into the speaker level audio amp section. If the radio is streaming via a network connection, or you listen via the headphone jack, there is no noise - at least in my and other's experience.Yeah, makes sense. Other than at night, I'd never notice it. Actually, it does it when my display is off. Should I not hear it if it's not writing to the display? Also, not a hint of noise through earbuds.
When I get a minute, I'll open the case and see if they stuck the penny in at the factory. Thanks.

Just to clarify, there where more than 1900 made with a 2018 timestamp. So probably 2000 where made in 2018 and perhaps 1000 in 2019. But yes, a total of 3000 SDS200 scanners have been manufactured.Wow. Nearly 3,000 this year! There are a bunch of us scanner nuts out here aren't there?
No. The serial number indicates the actual year of manufacture, per UPMan. Serial numbers restart each year, they do not continue sequentially from the previous year. So the 3000 or more SDS200s made in 2019 are in addition to what were made in 2018, and don't count international variants like the Euro and the Australian models.Just to clarify, there where more than 1900 made with a 2018 timestamp. It's not a "guess" when the Uniden Product Manager for the scanner division posted an explanation of Uniden's serial numbering practices, and it's verifiable.
For example, looking through my scanner modding database, I see serial numbers ranging from 102 to 9430 for BCD436HPs made in 2014 (I modded serial numbers 376Z48000102 and 376Z48009430). So the sequence probably starts at one, but cannot be any higher than 100, given the data I have. My SDS200 serial number is 384Z98000217, or unit 217 made in 2019.
Can you point me to where it is buried? Thanks.
