I might add to this that the "instructions" to which n2pqq refers omit what seems to me to be an important consideration: after you strip off the black strip -- adhesive remains on the chassis lip, and unless that's removed in the area the grounding lug is placed, any "ground" you're getting suffers. Alcohol won't remove it, so I used some acetone (nail polish remover), which removed it completely, followed by an alcohol wipe to remove the acetone residue. The result: no hum at all, internal or external speakers.
Goo Gone works great too. :)
Got my part installed and no more hum or external speaker noise.

Just received my SDS200 today from Bearcat Warehouse, has been on order since late February.
I would guess this is from the second batch as shipment was not for 10 days after order.
Shipped on 3/4/19.
Happy to report no hum or any noise so far. Maybe just got a lucky one??
Serial number ends in 880016XX for those that might like to know.

I received my part today and it cut down the external humming noise on the internal speaker which helps out a lot. It did NOT help the external speaker though.

I totally agree with you. one of my favorite scanners i use ever day here in los angeles is my 396xt. Still one of the best scanners uniden ever made.if they could get the sds line of scanners to receive like the XT scanners it would be the perfect scanners. But like i said the recieve on the 436 and 536 didn't happen over night. Took a year or 2 to get to the point where the 436 and 536 are almost on par with the XT Series of scanners recieve wise.. love the SDS line of scanners just needs some tweak's.

What you don't recall all the issues with the X96 series? It took time and firmware updates and all that with them too.

Scheduled delivery by Tuesday March 12 end of day.
So TX to NH takes 12 days via FedEx?

Why not use USPS. It would take about 3 days, 4 at the most.
Still waiting on mine. Scheduled for the 13th. If you want it quicker, check the paid shipping option. Smartpost is for tightwads.

Smartpost - An oxymoron. Part arrived to local FedEx on Sunday - wasn't delivered to me until Friday! And to boot, I ordered two and received one.

I'm about to call and order another one and have it shipped on my dime. Might seem petty to some, but I find this to be unacceptable. Should've been shipped USPS First Class. Taking over two weeks is lame and shows how important I am.

Got the part earlier this week, just had a chance to install it now. Cuts the external humming noise by about 90%. Happy with the results.
Agreed, cuts the noise down, but did not completely eliminate it. I can't hear it unless I place my ear within a few inches of the internal speaker.

Ditto. Hum and pulsing on SD writes is still there.
The "Copper Band-aid" did help, but the noise is still present.

Just finished installing the part a few hours ago, updated to the latest firmware.

There is reduced hum, I'll admit. Still unacceptably loud on my unit, unfortunately. I set the "Audio Off Time" setting in the new firmware to 100ms. Can hear hash noise still with this setting but no hum. When a broadcast comes on, however, so does the hum, clearly audible along with the voices.

I was meticulous with my installation of the part and was careful to get it exactly right.

Disappointed. Return window is closed. I should have listened to those who told me to return it but I really thought the factory part would solve the issues.

At least I didn't buy the protocol updates yet, I guess.

Today I received the NMP200 parts from Uniden. I again disassembled the units and installed the part.

WOW !! Took my noise level on the worse unit down to nothing. This unit I was using an external speaker on. The other unit has no noise either and I’m haven’t got that one connected to a speaker.

So with that done and no screen flicker I’ll install them in my vehicle as it appears I don’t have to return them. It needs to warm up some so maybe in a week or two. And the foil tape can go back on the shelf for the next Uniden scanner - LOL!!

Now the noise/hum has reappeared! With it coming back I did the most recent firmware upgrade so the hum is no longer present during periods of no transmission however it is present when squelch is broke. It is sitting on my desk so it isn't like something came loose or lost contact with the part. I am going to once again tear into the unit sometime this week, reset the part and see if that has any effect.

Posting to see if anyone else has had this happen????

I was still trudging along with slightly reduced noise utilizing the ghetto foil mod. Last night, I updated the firmware and adjusted the audio off time. I noticed no noise, but as is being reported, I hear the noise mixing with each received transmission.

My factory mitigation part is scheduled to arrive today, but it's looking like I will have the same outcome, maybe not, but will soon find out.

I'm more interested in what the factory updated units will be like. I imagine they won't be using the part being shipped currently. If the updated units are noise free, then sending unit in for warranty repair later on, might be the better option.

Installed my part. My results are exactly as you describe.
