I recently purchased a SDS200 scanner. I know this has been discussed before, but is there any chance Uniden will be making a remote head?

I know there was another computer screen remote project. However, I am concerned whether it will work in N/W Florida. It's get pretty hot inside my car.

Thank you in advance.

I would rather see any technical ability go towards firmware updates, a little over three years and one month and counting since the last one.

I have a feeling that Paul was thinking in that direction at one time and that technology went with him. It would be great and probably very expensive to mimic the original radios.

Back when the RH-96 remote head was discontinued, there were many requests to produce more. Based on a comment UPMan made at that time, I would doubt Uniden would have much interest in developing a version for the newer scanners......

And, it took two years to sell out the first small production run. We made a few other small runs for ScannerMaster, but sales were dismal and never paid for development.

I never understood that. As far as I know and the crowd I ran with they were in great demand and hard to get. I had 2 myself. Everybody wanted one oh, they just didn't make enough. They worked fairly well! Never understood the concept that they just weren't popular enough.

You and your friends bought how many total?

The "not popular enough" concept is easy, if you don't sell enough to pay the costs you paid to develop the product and also make a profit, you drop the product.

I bought two of them, I only had two cars at that time. Other news guys all liked the way the remote head worked in the car and had one. I get the concept that they canceled it because they didn't sell enough of them and it wasn't cost effective.

All I'm saying is, I don't understand it.

I too hope we see some type of easy to use remote. (Proscan has potential, but for those of us not extra tech savvy. . . )

They were on to something with the dongle for the 536's but they had a ton of trouble getting them to barely work. Based on a long conversation with Upman years ago, I think had the dongle worked better in the beginning, the Siren App would have been fully developed.

I dearly loved my RH96's. Those of us that bought them were really happy, but I think Uniden was hoping for a larger number of purchasers.

We need the Siren app updated.
The Siren app was never developed fully in the first place, so updating it probably wouldn't provide positive results for many. Uniden was trying to build a system where all of the devices fed to a server that was maintained by Uniden, which was then controlled by siren, allowing remote access to your radio from anywhere. It was based on the model they were using for their home video surveillance systems at the time. It never came to full fruition and was abandoned faster than the RH-96. While some have positive results, I doubt that Uniden wants to get back into that quagmire which was one of the bigges failures of the x36 line.

I too think they had the right idea, but approached it in a manner where they were thinking with their wallet instead of the consumer's. A $200 add on for what was already an expensive scanner at the time was just too much for many to justify. If they had maginally increased the price of the scanner and made the remote head an integral part (i.e. PSR900 and its Whistler derivatives) I think it would have gone a much different direction. I have 2 RH-96s and won't part with them.

Yea, I had one also to use with my bcd396t and they were nice but the bundle of wires needed turned some folks off I'm sure. That plus the cost compared to the scanner itself.

Obviously, for news organizations they helped.

You know I think it's real down fall was that it only worked with the 396 models. They were very popular at the time but the remote head only worked with them. It was discovered later to work with the 996 units also, I don't remember the exact timeline but I think it was too late by then.

Uniden could've easily designed the SDS200 with a remote head (standard or optional) from scratch, as it was a completely new design not based on any previous models. They didn't, which is probably all you need to know about the prospects of an official remote head ever happening.
