Man I can understand the shelling a grand to hear a system that could brick a radio, and I am kinda dissatisfied with uniden and how this was pushed out,
In truth I would of waited and when it was ready to drop, I would not put a tease out just say here it is and dropped it, after some major testing, DFW Is ok, but Dallas is close enough to try there system (analog) and find out what can be done, and try to see what issues was with the 101, that still has problems.

I myself can not ever drop close to a grand for all the bells and whistles for a radio that works sub par!

I have been posting my experience with the screen flicker problem in the Introducing the SDS200 thread in the Uniden Prospective Owners forum.

I am replying to this thread because it is specific to the problem.

In summary, I have been having the flicker problem (a line below the SYSTEM DEPT CHANNEL text on the screen of my SDS200) for a while. Reducing the dimmer settings seemed to work, but yesterday the problem returned and dimmer setting as low as 10% made no difference.

This morning, I turned on the unit (it was off overnight) and was surprised to see that there was no flickering line on the screen. This, however, was short-lived, as the flickering returned about 15 minutes after the unit was on. I wonder now if this is a problem caused by the unit heating up.
So Art, would you consider returning the radio to Universal for a refund? I remember seeing a post from Uniden representative that said even though updates are not refundable, in the case of a returned unit for a defect they would refund the money for an update.

That was for one of the other defects I can't remember if it was the keyboard or the noise so I want to be careful not to misquote.

I do know for a fact you can't transfer updates from one radio to the other.

I definitely wouldn't want to send a brand new unit to Uniden for them to wrench on.

If you can get your money back for the radio and the update and not have to pay a restocking fee because I certainly would hope they wouldn't sell it to anybody else then you'll be able to step back and wait to see what happens in the future in regards to Uniden intervention to all of the issues like so many of us are doing.

I love my SDS 100 and would very much like to have an SDS 200... I have the money ready but I just can't pull the trigger yet with all of these issues popping up... I was just wondering if you were willing to get a refund and step away from it for a while to see what happens. I think that's what I would do but
Hi Caldwest, it seemed that way with my unit for a while, but now you cannot even read the bootup messages if you didn't already know what they are saying. So mine causes issues "now" instant on.

Today I am contemplating asking for a refund as Trentbob suggested "IF" uniden will also refund my DMR upgrade. First I will ask Uniden and see.
That thing would go back as quickly as I could count to 10, then I would call my AMEX card and explain this to them. The merchant is debited instantly. I don't put up with this nonsense, not for ONE MINUTE! This is a $699.95 base scanner. It should work PROPERLY unless it was hit by a bolt of lightning, literally. I knew the Bearcat SDS200 would have problems. Guys, you don't buy something that first comes out. It's called "common sense".

seeing this i wont be getting one, i will go with the 996p2 radio
I'm already going to buy a Bearcat BCD-996P2. It NEVER has had any issues and is a SOLID performer too. I owned a Bearcat BCT-15X, it was a great and well made analog scanner. When I get my BCD-996P2 when I'm ready, I will use my Diamond RH-77CA on it verses the supplied pull up telescoping antenna.

Cool. In this area, there is no 800Mhz in use. It is this the following: 46.26/33.96/46.06/154.340/453.675/460.4625/154.145/484.7125/453.500/46.50/484.7125 for most fire departments. Westchester County Fire does use a analog trunking system on UHF--Motorola Smart Zone ll. The police are all analog except (2) areas and Yonkers, NY just went encrypted last month. So a antenna cut for 800Mzh just like on my BC-125AT would not cut it. This is why I use a Diamond RH-77CA. When I sell my(MINT) Bearcat BC-125AT on another site, I will then buy/purchase a Bearcat BCD-996P2 and also use the same rubber antenna.
Thanks for reaching back out to me so fast, riccom. Have a great night and up-coming weekend.

Many thanks to Scanner Master. Last Thursday I returned via UPS for exchange my SDS 200 that had the screen flicker problem. The replacement scanner arrived this evening. I updated the firmware and data base and loaded my favorites in just a couple of minutes. It's nice to see a screen without a flickering line.
