My concern with the Amazon seller & this discounted item was their fine print of a 50% restocking fee, plus return shipping deducted even if amazon offered to pay shipping on returned items. Not sure if that is normal or it was just this seller. ???

There's a lot more to the story but I'm not going in to it on a public forum.

Ok, your discretion on details. I shouldn't judge anyhow, in certain situations it can be justified.

You may or may not know but if you don't think the SDS is receiving like it should there are a number of tweaks that can be explored that have worked for others.

Right now is probably a bad time to purchase anything online, as covid19 precautions and restrictions apply to all international merchants and there are unpredictable shipping delays with domestic orders. It amazes me how much China has infiltrated the retail market. You have to be careful and always check the origins of online sellers. On eBay just click on the seller name and you can see their country and their feedback. I bought an iPhone 8 headphone adapter several weeks ago from a Hong Kong dealer and its been 37 days as of today. As things heat up between the US and China you can bet some of these Chinese merchants will surely do their part.

I've ordered enough stuff from China to know that I can count on it being no less than a month before I see it.

It's not much better on this side of the pond, either. I ordered a custom pickup for one of my mandolins. The builder is in California and doesn't use PayPal. It took a full two weeks for my check to make the trip from Georgia.

Then the time for it to be deposited and then wait for it to clear...

Uniden can sanction small specialty retailers, but when it comes to Amazon, Uniden is not in the driver's seat.

Not sure what your post has to do with Bearcat Warehouse selling discounted SDS200's on Amazon. I assume you are being jocular when you say it is "probably a bad time to purchase anything online"

Going to agree with @bberns22 - online sales have skyrocketed even more during the pandemic as folks have been stuck at home in many cases. Silly to suggest it's a bad time to purchase online since that's what most are doing and doing successfully. Also, if it's in stock at Amazon then there's no waiting - Prime two-day shipping and it's at the door. I've ordered plenty over the last several weeks - no extra delays, no issues. I also don't order from China sellers...pay attention to who you're buying from and you won't either.

I'll go with what bberns22 said above - I can only hope you were joking.

I had reached out to the seller they kindly wrote me back as to the reason the big price drop and return to the $690. "Our automated pricing software had a glitch and caused some prices to be lower than they should have been but has been resolved."

I 100% do not believe that from the merchant:
  1. The price of the the item from Police Scanner Outlet (Bearcat Warehouse) changed prices from $550 to $699 and then back at least twice in a 24 hour period. Seems odd that pricing software would do that without purpose
  2. A small merchant like this would have to institute pricing changes manually. No way they have dynamic pricing capability, NO WAY
  3. At least once, when Police Scanner Outlet price went back to $699, 2ndChanceSales (also a Prime merchant) was then displayed as the featured seller with a $550 selling price
Extremely unlikely that 1&3 were a coincidence or that 2ndChanceSales had the same software pricing issue. Most likely it was Amazon making the changes. Was it a mistake on Amazons part? It is possible but more likely it was simply Amazons AI software optimizing price for whatever its objective function is. I have no doubt that both merchants will receive their expected payments on those sales.

Bearcat Warehouse's statement is most likely a covering their behind response in case Undien decides to bark...

One thing I do believe is that we wont see that price again for a good while...

In the past when Paul monitored these forums like a hawk, someone would post a cheaper price and within hours it would be back up. Coincidence? No. Regardless of what 'statements' he made that they don't, we know that Uniden has MAP policies and the dealers have to follow them. So...a seller would lower the price to attract sales and someone would post about it here. In little time Paul saw the post and put the wheels in motion to get them contacted. Common logic proves this to be what happened as we saw it more than once.

Now that Paul is no longer with us (RIP) I don't know if they are watching the forums nearly as much as in the past. We know they have an account or two but are they actually watching like he did? Doubt it. So...these threads are a little less 'dangerous' for a seller who decides to drop the price.

I agree that the price drops on Amazon seem to be intentional. Now, we do know that Amazon provides some pricing and seller controls that they can set and it could have been a glitch on the Amazon side of things so I won't completely rule that out but it does seem less likely. I believe that sellers can set a min and mix price and the system will fluctuate within those boundaries. So...glitch or not, $550 was a good price and congrats to those who snatched one up at that price. Same as those who got it on eBay way back when, using the eBay coupon, before Uniden contacted the seller and said no no.

It was silly for Paul to deny their actions when their actions were obvious. I don't think it's wrong (legally) for them to do it that way but I do think it's poor business and eliminates competition if they make all dealers/retailers maintain the exact same price. Let free market reign and if someone wanted to cut their slice of the pie a little smaller by undercutting competition...so be it.

Just my viewpoint and opinion based on my own recent experiences. Not something to agree or disagree. The fact is that with increased online shopping it's a good time to be careful because of scammers and unscrupulous merchants. Enough said.

I would certainly pay attention to the seller, yes. For sure. Always. But, if it is fulfilled by Amazon then they have it on hand.

My unit has shipped as well, UPS 2nd day. I'll be getting it a day earlier than what Amazon originally estimated - arriving Wednesday instead of Thursday. :)
