SDS250 potential?

Seeing as the SDS150 has brought so many improvements, I wonder what if any, would a hypotetical SDS250, would have?

Would Uniden even consider making an SDS250?

Rumor on here is that it will decrypt any encryption and dispense warm syrup on the pancakes it makes.

But serious, I would think GPS would not be as big of a selling point on a desktop unit as on a handheld. I guess Bluetooth would be nice but it’s so easy to add BT transmitter to a stationary unit. Of course, better reception would be a benefit.

But serious, I would think GPS would not be as big of a selling point on a desktop unit as on a handheld. I guess Bluetooth would be nice but it’s so easy to add BT transmitter to a stationary unit. Of course, better reception would be a benefit.
But a 200 is mobile/desktop base. Just not handheld. So would a 250.

@jasonhouk, it sure must be nice being an alpha tester having access to “concept scanners” with the future in bells and whistles. I’ve worked with Ford Motor Company as a subcontractor in the past and was exposed to Concept Cars. Based on your SDS550 photo, you are clearly the Uniden Visionary! 😃

The 250 would be an upgraded 200, and yes, the 200>250 upgrade would be beneficial and marketable for Uniden. This is because the 200 is effectively a 100 in a base/mobile chassis, with some extra space (which helps some), plus a few extras that the 100 doesn't have. A 250 would have all the improvements of the 150, including GPS, Bluetooth, app usage, and muchly improved RF circuit of the 150, plus the ethernet and whathaveyou from the 200. It's very doable, and I have no doubt we'll see one in the not too distant future. I wouldn't be surprised if it's already in development, and just as the 150 snuck up on us, they'll introduce the 250 the same way.

As the 200 is also used as a mobile, I'd have to respectfully disagree with you on the role of GPS in a 250.

I’m not so sure. Given the metal case and typical mobile mounting locations with no view of the sky, an external GPS antenna would be mandatory for a mobile installation. Would it be included or an extra-cost option? Plus, how many buyers use them mobile as opposed to on a table at home? The cost/benefit calculation for built-in GPS doesn’t necessarily add up; might as well stick with the optional GPS which someone could buy if they need it.

Bluetooth and an improved receiver would be a much better selling point.

I would like Uniden to do a dual receiver scanner. The SDR receiver chip costs less than a dollar and a second DSP doesn't have to be able to handle voice, just decode the control data and squelch, so it could even use a less costly DSP function.

The second receiver could work as a "scan ahead" receiver that monitors the next active system and when the first receiver have stopped monitoring, the info from the second receiver are copied to the first receiver, an instant scan to next active system being it digital or analog. A display info shows what the second receiver have stopped at and you can choose to let it continue to scan if that system wasn't interesting to you. Or the second receiver could monitor the control channel of the same system that the first receiver are monitor making it possible to do preemptive priority of any TG. There's lot of possibilities when using dual receivers.

A couple of switch diodes are letting the second receiver connect to the different front-end bandpass filters and some more diodes to allow either receiver to use a second antenna port. I would like all multiband scanners to have the option to select between two antenna ports.
