So I have a trunked system programed E-Comm (WARS) Trunking System, Vancouver, British Columbia - Scanner Frequencies into my BC346XT. It was suggested to me in another more regionally relevant to me forum that I
"If you program the Ecomm system into your scanner with a uniden scanner make sure its on Search and not Scan. Then you will hear lots of interesting goodies". The gist of the prior conversation being the normally encrypted TGs sometimes revert to analog if there is tech issues or interoperability going on. Neither here nor there but there you go. I am still in the learning process of this scanner. How do I set the system to search rather than scan as the member from the other forum suggests. Full thread here:

Should be a setting in the System options. They meant ID SEARCH vs ID SCAN.

FUNCTION then SCAN. Same to go back. It is in the programming too, in the system options.

or just this

To toggle between ID Scan or ID Search mode while scanning each trunked system, press Func then Scan/Srch.
that is from the easier to read manual. it has the some for my 396t but all i have to do is hit the scan button so try that also.

Scan will let you only hear what's programmed in the radio. Meaning if you have 50 talk groups programmed in, you will only hear those if you do not have them locked out or avoided.

Search will let you hear everything you have programmed in, plus anything that's not. So if when you programmed in all the talk groups, and a month later a new talk group was created, you would hear it. Being that it is new, and not in the database, it would only display a tg, minus a alpha tag. As far as encrypted goes, most people lock those out so if there was a tech issue going on and those tg's were being broadcast in the clear, you would not hear them because they would be locked out.

I always scan trunked system in search mode especially during a big event either something weather related or just the pres coming to town so in the event there is a new tg, I would not miss the action. I program the entire system and lock out what I have no interest in hearing..

Got it. I will experiment with that and see over time what differences there are. Thanks all.
