• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I had to call them directly on their phone number listed at their website. The lady was very helpful. I don't remember the exact price, but it wasn't too terrible.

I really enjoy mine with the glove knob kit, makes the knobs so much better to me. New London Technologies has about any housing or keypad item you need for the XL200.
I thought I saw something a while back about a knob kit for the XL radios. I searched but failed to find any info. Do you have a part number for it?

For all those inquiring about the gloved knob kit:

14035-1948-30
KIT,GLOVE FRIENDLY KNOB COVER-VOL&CHAN XL200P

Give this part number to any L3Harris dealer and they will gladly order them for you, or even may have them in stock.

I just bought RPM/RPM2 through my dealer and it was simple and quick. My dealer even put it on a flash drive for me before sending the software package (unless you have a $3000/year tech link account, it comes on a CD from Harris). It came via UPS and then it took a couple of days to get the license key from Harris. It was about $700. I didn’t want a dongle because it’s more expensive and it eats a USB port, of which I only have one on the Panasonic Toughpad I installed it on. If the computer craps out, I can call Harris and have them revoke the key they sent and issue a new one for the new install. That’s perfect for me. When I call, I give them my customer number and they will help me with my software license, but other than that, I work through my dealer. I’m an individual so I’m not top priority, but as long as I’m patient, I’m well taken care of. I love my Harris radios and customer service experience honestly. I would like to get a techlink account, but it’s gonna be a few months before I can afford it.

As far as widebanding, I don’t think that’s happening, at least not unless you’re a three letter agency. They have really cracked down on who they will do that for as far as I’m aware…

Good luck… harris will more then likely surely say NO.. unless you’re a govt agency they won’t even answer individual requests anymore… they essentially don’t want to be held liable for any unwanted interference

In order to use wideband on UHF for the XLs, you would have to have the feature unlocked which is done via a request through TAC. Unfortunately they will not do it just for HAM & you must have a license for a frequency that is permitted on wideband & submit that through TAC for the feature string. It has been done-however is super restricted.

Ref wideband. I got a better solution. Hams start using narrowband. Duh. This is 2022, not 1946. Get with the program. I been using narrowband on ham before the FCC even mandated it to part 90 users. NXDN hams are using Very Narrow in some areas.

Well we know the Boston subway “upgraded” to a state of the art obsolete EDACS system… XL200P is overkill.. but VHF would come in handy for back up use… we can make a far off educated guess they make opt for 200s with reduced feature sets OR just do single band 150Ps or 185Ps.. to be honest I still do not even know the huge difference between XL150 radios and the 185…

If I recall correctly, it has something to do with the number of encryption keys. Probably software related, but a dumbed down version.

Side note….
We were talking with Harris about buying a system from them. One of their guys actually tried to steer us towards Opensky. Couldn't believe it….. And this was only a year or two ago.

As per Harris legal dept HUGE NO to wideband on ANY radios sold in the continental US… I’ve seen instances of hams inquiring about it to which Harris replies.. this isn’t a ham radio; thank you have a great L3 day 😜
