I just bought RPM/RPM2 through my dealer and it was simple and quick. My dealer even put it on a flash drive for me before sending the software package (unless you have a $3000/year tech link account, it comes on a CD from Harris). It came via UPS and then it took a couple of days to get the license key from Harris. It was about $700. I didn’t want a dongle because it’s more expensive and it eats a USB port, of which I only have one on the Panasonic Toughpad I installed it on. If the computer craps out, I can call Harris and have them revoke the key they sent and issue a new one for the new install. That’s perfect for me. When I call, I give them my customer number and they will help me with my software license, but other than that, I work through my dealer. I’m an individual so I’m not top priority, but as long as I’m patient, I’m well taken care of. I love my Harris radios and customer service experience honestly. I would like to get a techlink account, but it’s gonna be a few months before I can afford it.
As far as widebanding, I don’t think that’s happening, at least not unless you’re a three letter agency. They have really cracked down on who they will do that for as far as I’m aware…
