So far I really like my new BCD536HP. Turned it on for the first time on 22 June, set the clock, entered the Zip, Range to Zero, and Select lists to monitor to Full DB. Its been running 24/7 while I have been getting familiar with Profiles and FL's, reading the manual and watching YouTube videos. Also have the back light set to high and 5 second squelch so its not on continuous. Now I think I screwed up a setting somewhere. I loaded a Profile and some FL's and now when I look at SERVICES and try to select Aircraft I hear 3 beeps and see 3 dashes where I should be able to see "on" or "off". I'm sure its operator error so I need help to get services to turn "on" or "off".

Having said that I'm still really happy with this radio but I would like to have a color display or color selectable display, this display is real hard on my old eyes.

Have a 5 star day! And thank you for reading my post.

If you are scanning only Favorites Lists and there are no channels having the given Service Type, you cannot toggle that Service Type.

For example I have about 15 Favorites Lists programmed in my scanner (full database is off) and there are no channels programmed as "Ham" service type. When I go to Menu>Select Service Ham shows ---.

Thus in your situation, you do not have any channels assigned to Aircraft.

Thank you, that's good news because everything is working as it should. That makes perfect sense too. Now I can go about creating more FL's and maybe not screw everything up. LOL.

Like ofd8001 said, turn on a FQK with that particular Service and you'll being hear Aircraft, if those things are enabled/on. Also, make sure the subset(s) quick keys: System and Departments (SQK & DQK) are enabled/on/check marked in the scanner/sentinel

There has been commentary to the S/n and the new vs old series of LED's, after 580039xx is suppose to be newest with longer life LEDs, it was never proven whether all the older series LEDs will fail. So either way heat and over voltage can kill LEDs the quickest, so.....

Per the small text make sure you have it on 3 line display, other than that 7-11 point doubt is the best you'll get until Uniden comes out with a TRUE THREE LINE, even the 436 would excel with multi-line mode enhancement, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, lines option would be great ....

Thank you. I just bought mine June 20 on Amazon and it looks like I got an older unit. Its SN: 480047xx so I'm not sure what this will mean as far as the LED reliability or LED replacement / repair. I'm running it on 3 line display. I will try that with setting the QK on. Thanks.

That's means the issue is possible. Not all units exhibit the issue however.
