BCD436HP - Profiles all overwritten

I don't even have to write this one myself. I found someone with the same issue - what gives?

"For some reason, my profiles have all ended up identical and I'm not sure how/why. Each time I open a different one or create new, it's the same as the previously opened one. If I save an existing profile as new, and delete a Fave, the Fave gets removed from all profiles. So any changes made on one profile are saved among all profiles, resulting in them all being identical. All previous profiles I created containing different Faves, are gone."

The names that were given to the Profiles remain unchanged but all the Favorites Lists that were contained within are now the same as the last one opened or downloaded from the radio into Sentinel. In short, I end up with (5) Profiles with different names that all now contain the same exact Favorite Lists.
***

Thanks to whomever wrote that - couldn't have summed it up better myself. Anyone got any ideas? -d

That's how it's supposed to function... all your favorites lists are common to all profiles. The customization of each profile is set up by all the other parameters.... by using the download and monitor switches for each favorites lists etc. There are many posts in the forum explaining how profiles work, and check this resource:

So basically I thought favorite lists werepart of profiles but they're not. Still, I went to 'import' and I guess that's for profiles only? I made a backup the other day when it was all set correctly. What file in particular am I looking for in order to get then back?

Import and export (.hpe files) are only for favorites lists. You would use "new, open, save, and save as" for profiles. In the Sentinel toolbar look in Tools ---> Options for the file location of the files on your computer.

Edit..Edit Profile (you'll see the list of all the favorite lists)...Monitor & Download need to be set to ON to be used in a specific profile. Then..File...Save...Write to Scanner.

If your programming appears to be a mess, check the Erase Favorites Lists in Scanner box once you arrive at Write to Scanner, this will wipe it clean and start from scratch. I'm not sure if you have Quick Keys assigned to the Favorite Lists, but those will also be sent to the scanner.

If...you send two Favorite Lists with identical Quick Keys, one of them will not be assigned a Quick Key and will be on all the time...unless you manually change the Quick Key number.

When you go from other brands of scanners, and even older Unidens, to a fairly new Uniden that uses profiles, I think it might have been a BC246T that where my first or a BCT-15, you are stumped at how it works. You logically thinks that a profile handles a whole new configuration, but not so, it only handles which of the list it should use. I hade one Home profile and one Away and edited the Away systems just to have my Home systems changed as well that needed me to look up all the hard to find data that I had deleted. Always make backups of your work, and with SD memory card scanners you should have an identical copy on a SD card always at hand.
