Why do I need to reset the clock every time after updating a HP II with Sentinel?

You shouldn't have to, do you have a set of fully charged batteries properly installed in it? Once you load from Sentinel and reconnect to a USB power supply it should turn on load favorites and ask if you want to start charge, but not to set time.

How old is your HP2? Is this a new issue or has it been happening all along? It may be that the RTC battery is dying.

There have been scattered reports of problems with the RTC itself in the Home Patrol 2 scanners, but try this:

Before you update....

  • Set the clock correctly in the scanner.
  • Read from the Home Patrol to Sentinel
  • Update the database in Sentinel
  • Then write to the Home Patrol from Sentinel as usual.

Last 2 months. Thought about fxdscon solution might be the answer.
Only one firmware update for this scanner.

wasn't there a fix for this from uniden?
If you are speaking of the RTC repair campaign that was in place for the BCDx36HP models... No, there was never a similar campaign issued for the Home Patrol units, and there have only been very scattered reports of those actual RTC problems with the Home Patrol units.

There were firmware updates for the BCDx36HP models just before the start of that repair campaign to let the boot process continue after a short time so that the user wouldn't have to manually enter the time each time the scanner booted up. There was never such a firmware update issued for the HP2, in fact there have never been any firmware updates for the HP2 since it's release. The current versions are the same as the release versions:

1.05 / 1.02 (Main / Sub).

Hopefully, post #3 will take care of the problem. Perhaps the OP will let us know if it fixes his issue.

With the 436, you had to set the time to get the scanner to work every time you turned it on if the clock battery was not charged. A firmware update gave you 5 seconds to reset the time if you wanted and then allowed the scanner to boot up in a normal manner. The battery replacement was part of a free repair program.
