Septa Pd

Hello, I can help you out a little. The zones cover different parts of the city and counties. I know that where I work is zone 1 Upper Darby and delco/Montco to 52nd st in philly is zone 1. Zone 2 is from 52nd to I believe Girard ave. I don't work for the pd I am in operations. I know that Septa pd can talk to Upper Darby on their handhelds. And that the septa pd dispatcher can talk to J band via a patch I hope this gives you some idea what is going on.

I don't know how many changes have been made to police operations since this document was written, but there is an overview of police operations that includes a description of eight patrol zones here:

http://www.paed.uscourts.gov/documents/opinions/98d0636p.pdf

Just search the document for "zone".

The patrol zones are basically built around the Market Frankford El and the Broad Street Line.

I don't think the zone 8 exists anymore. As the previous poster mentioned, I think Zone 1 also covers suburban areas for regional rail as well as part of the MFL. If Zone 8 no longer exists, I'm not sure what officers would cover incidents to the north (i.e. NE Philly and Bucks).

I never see SEPTA police at the Norristown Transportation Center any more. In fact, SEPTA currently has an agreement with the Montco Sheriff's office that has deputies making rounds through the NTC during the weekdays. I'll often see a sheriff's patrol car parked there in the afternoon rush time.

I've heard Zone 1 officers out on the Media and Sharon Hill lines as well as the Regional Rail in Delco. A couple weeks ago Car 1 made a ped stop at Morton Station. There is no zone 8 anymore - most incidents on Regional Rail outside of Suburban and Market East are handled by local police. Amtrak PD handles 30th Street and Wilmington while NJT Police handle Trenton. Same goes for most incidents on the bus and trolley lines as local police are usually much closer than SEPTA police.
