There has been a shooting at Wilmer-Hutchins High School in Dallas, southwest of Hwy I-20 & I-45, near the Dallas-Hutchins border. The incident occured around 1PM.

No longer being treated as an 'active shooter' incident, so no SWAT/Tactical response.

Details are somewhat sketchy, but scene has been listed as secure, with arrangements in process to allow parents & guardians to pick up uninvolved students. Victim was shot in the leg, and has been transported to a hospital. Two other students reported as being transported to a hospital as well.

More on local media links:

WFAA/Channel 8 reporter interviewed one person on scene who reported that one of the metal detectors at the school was not working, and possibly that was how a weapon was taken into the facility.

There was a previous shooting, last year on April 12th, at the same campus.

This is in the South Central Patrol district. DISD PD units (mostly encrypted) are on scene, along with other law enforcement personnel. Dallas Fire Rescue has a number of units on scene as well, but it appears that the number of victims was, fortunately, very limited.

Now reporting that four students were transported to medical facilities, three to Baylor Scott & White just east of downtown Dallas, and one to Methodist Medical Center, southwest of downtown in north Oak Cliff. Both hospitals are Level 1 trauma centers, but only one student was actually shot.

"The metal detector wasn't working?" This is getting old. "Why" wasn't it working? In Killeen, someone was killed when their AI detector also failed. Arm the students. At least they might have a chance.

Details have been updated to some extent.
Actually, while (reportedly) the detector was out of service, review of security video showed that the shooter entered the building via an unlocked door, which was opened for him by another student already inside the building, So the "out of service" metal detector played no part in the incident.

The details of the other one I mentioned did have a malfunctioning detector. Thus far, they don't know or won't comment on the machine.

School’s weapons detection system was not working day student was fatally stabbed, superintendent says

I was amazed that this occurred in Killeen. The state indicated that some schools needed resource officers. Later, I learned that the state of Texas wasn't going to pay for it.

I finally found the brand of detector that did not work in Killeen.
