The pro-97's just went on sale for $150 most stores I called only have a floor/demo model left and I would like to return my pro-99 and get a pro 97. Would it be wise to get a floor model even if the gave me an extended warrantee ?

Look it over closely. See if it was progrmmed outside the store. See what batt's are in it. Make sure you get everything that comes with it. Good Luck

Just have them send you one D2U (Direct to you).
You usually get it in about 3-4 days, and no charge for shipping.

Some stores put their scanners in what they call fish tanks (glass cages) so that customers cannot steal them. If it is in a glass cage, and isn't turned on, most likely it has never been used. However on the other hand it could have been on the display, on 24/7 for a year or more.

Use your own judgement, I have bought at least three floor models in the past from RS and had no problems. You never though. LarrySC has the right idear if you decide to go that way.

It's very common for Radio Shack store managers to throw in a free extended warranty when buying display models. Ask about it.

That sounds like the best bet.

Several years ago I returned a really bad performing 2067. I saw that it was on display (for sale) the very next day. You could be buying someone elses problems, and having to deal with a warranty return will not make you a happy customer.

Thankfully that manager is no longer with the company.

Try before you buy.
The 1st Pro96 I tried to buy was the display model and it didn't work, wouldn't program.

Took about 10 days to get one in...
(Manager eventually went to another store and got one for me. Good RS folks here in Austin..)

Best Of Luck,
Jon

I personally would not buy a store demo if you have the option of getting a new one shipped to you or the store. RS is notorious for re-selling items that have been returned as defective by other customers. Plus if it is not in a "glass cage" as someone mentioned, anyone, including children are free to handle and play with the the thing.

I have the 97 as well as the 2055, and they are a great combo if you ever want a base/mobile........
