You should be able to monitor them and find out if you are just hearing scrambled comms. If you don't hear any more plan voice, or find out from monitoring that's it's part time encrypted, please go to the county page it's located in and open a submission ticket so it can be changed accordingly. Thank you

Have you ever heard them in the clear? I was under the impression all law enforcement in Chatham was going encrypted once they were completely cutover to VIPER.

I have heard them in the clear. They are already on VIPER. CCSO Disp has 'e'. But that is it on VIPER. All the other channels show no encryption.

Siler CIty, Pittsboro, Chatham County SO and another yet identified VIPER user with TalkGroup 10019 are all Encrypted with AES256.
They're also P25 Phase 2, at least through the Chatham Simulcast site.

Screengrab from my SDRTrunk program using an AirSpy SDR USB dongle.

Seems like that number would take a couple months.
There are quite a few hard-working DB admins that cover different areas, so it usually does not take that long since the work load gets spread out. It also depends on your geographic region. My submissions for Alabama are usually worked in about a day. For North Carolina it typically takes 1-2 weeks.

How easy was this to set up? I have always been interested in seeing the systems operate behind the scenes.

There are videos on YouTube showing where to get the software, and how to set it up. Here's an example:

I'm not sure which video had the best info, but it take some time and research, and trial and error to get working.

I'm using an AirSpy Mini USB dongle for the receiver. They're available from multiple sources online. It has a wideband receiver for use as a trunking decoder with a variety of SDR software, such as SDR#, UniTrunker/Unitrunker2, and SDR Trunk.
Having a good antenna and strong signal are important. Also tweaking the SDR software Gain Control sufficiently (trial and error) to get the best data decoding are important.
