Irrelevant. Issues with Phase II decoding would be related to physical signal differences, such as Phase II's higher data rate.

I would agree with this especially since the downlink is continuous (the same way the downlink is continuous with DMR) but the faster rate (12,000 bps instead of 9,600 bps) and Harmonized-Differential Quadrature Phase Shift Keying on hardware not really designed to receive that is more likely the issue.

To add to that, the downlink is continously transmitting, it's the uplink that has discontinuous transmit.

This probably will lead to a P-25 Phase II $$ update for Uniden. Just like the DMR upgrade. Either that or force people to by a SDS scanner.

Huh? P25 Phase II is a standard feature for the Uniden scanners that are hardware capable of decoding that modulation; no additional cost or upgrade needed. The ones that aren't already capable cannot be made capable by firmware or a "paid upgrade". The non-SDS models that do support Phase II cannot be magically made to decode simulcast better, as it's a hardware limitation.

The BCD996P2 is Phase II capable already. That's what the "P2" designates.

From reading this thread I wasn't sure how well the 996P2 was receiving the Phase II systems. I was thinking some type of upgrade would be needed. I was aware that it could handle Phase II.

Got it, sorry about that. I have a 996P2 that is handling P25 Phase 1 simulcast perfect, every bit as good as the SDS200 for me, but I'm one of the lucky ones. Not sure how well it would handle Phase 2. We don't have that in Michigan yet. Oakland County, MI is joining Michigan's MPSCS in the near future and that's rumored to be Phase 2, but it won't matter as it will also be encrypted.
