Just wanted to share the fact that adding an amplifier anywhere in the receive line will probably be an improvement, if you don't own a super low noise receiver. Of course it will be of best use when used directly between antenna and coax but that will put off many people messing around on the roof and probably also experimenting with FM trap filters as well on the roof.
Do the easiest thing first. If that is enough for you then it's no need climbing around on the roof.
