I do find that very interesting that the US Capitol Police want to use that system with 3K radios. I am guessing they will be using that area for training and or to update the training for all officers. Anyone else have any other thoughts on this?

I'm stretching into speculation land but the prospect of where any current relocation facilities are crossed my mind......

Re the Capitol Police, 3,000 is sure a lot of radios. But my guess is that the people who plan for relocation of the Congress over this way after a nuclear attack are figuring that having comms might be handy. Still, there are only 535 members of Congress to protect and even if you figure some staff that 3,000 is still a lot of radios.

Getting accustomed to an SDS-100. Not familiar with this type of radio but I'm working on it when I have the time. I'm located near Wardensville...and it is giving me WVSP plus Hardy and Hampshire on SIRN, as I would expect. However, I'm hearing nothing on the Ridge site, which was powerful here on my previous receiver before Wardensville went operational.

Instead, I get Wardensville (1 mile away, LOS from my window) and lately Point Pleasant-South and Missouri Branch and even White Sulfur Springs. Wouldn't expect to hear anything from those. But what happened to Ridge, if anything? Not complaining--just befuddled.

What control channel are you using? It should be 453.3375?

Steve-
Are you using your zip code to listen to the SIRN system? If so, the range setting has lots to do with what you'll hear. The default is 10 or 20 miles, and that's most likely why you're hearing distant sites you don't want. I'd recommend setting the range to 1 mile or even zero to eliminate the sites you don't want.

While lowering the range setting will eliminate distant sites, it probably won't help with getting the Ridge site, since these ranges don't take into account WVa geography, just a fixed number of miles. I'd suggest just programming the Ridge site as a separate bank with the talkgroups you want to hear. As @Radar412 suggested, if you can hear the control channel 453.3375MHz, you'll be fine.

Hope that's helpful.

Regarding my inability to receive Ridge, took my SDS-100 on the road and headed north. Ridge...was evidently hidden by a ridge from me. Got it just fine on the other side of the ridge. I am hearing a lot of sites that are surprisingly far away from my QTH. Learning what's on tap as I move around the area.
