I'm confused with the ordering of SJSO channels. I heard them refer to cancelling the 944 on channel 2 for 460.125. It seems that 460.225 is channel 1 with control 5 being on there and 460.350 is channel 3 with nothing going on.

Confirm?

sometimes they have 944's going on ch 1and ch 2 at the same time then records, normally on 2, moves to 3. but that's rare.

Oh now I get your post.

Example:

Channel 1 has 944.

All units not involved in the 944 switch to Channel 2 to maintain communication.

When the units on Channel 1 don't need the 944 any longer, dispatch announces on Channel 1 and Channel 2 that the 944 is over.

This lets the units that switched to Channel 2 know that they can switch back to Channel 1.

Get it?

Channel 2 is the Channel 1 backup during emergencies AND at the same time, Records aka "Control 5"

Channel 3 is a tac only.

Just like it is in the DB :)

Only channel I am picking up is 460.125 as Dispatch but when units switch to records I don't pick em up anymore, but I used to be able to. I'll try and see what I can do.

I confirmed and am hearing as I type " Signal 944 for channel 2" on 460.125 with the tone sounding on there. I still haven't heard where control 5 is.

Ok, some things did switch around. I'm not sure why but here was what I was able to find out.

Ch 1 460.225 NAC 392
Ch 2 460.125 NAC 390 (being used as primary)
Ch 3 460.350 NAC 391

As of now, I'm not sure what each channels designation is (records, dispatch) because I'm sure changes are still happening, but...these freq changes appear permanent.

Thanks for that. Confirms what I have been hearing. I'd say 460.225 might be used as Records as I will get a brief transmission on and off but only enough to activate the freq and then it's done. Tomorrow i'll venture out towards the SJSO office and listen in and see if I can catch which channel they are using control 5 on.

SJSO Control 5

Looks like control 5 is on Channel 2 460.225. I heard tidbits but I couldn't get a solid lock on the freq. It kept going in and out and had modulation problems.

Looks like SJSO has switched their channel tags again. Control 5 is on 460.125. 460.2250 is now Dispatch channel 1. 460.350 is channel 3 TAC
Dispatch on 460.2250 is nothing but a garbled and broken mess. They have definitely changed something.

Have you been able to pick up Dispatch OK? I only have unintelligible, garbled and alienish transmissions. I wouldn't say it is entirely encrypted seeing as how I could make out bits and peices of the transmissions. Just isn't "decoding" properly maybe? Not picking it up on both my PRO-106 and my BCD996XT last night. I'll see what I can get out today.

I'll double check everything. I haven't heard anything from SO except their Control 5 channel since yesterday.

I can pick up Dispatch on my PRO-106 if it is sitting ontop of my metal cased fan. The audio is understandable but it has the unable to decode or "digital" background to it. On my BCD996XT I can't get anything except Channel 2 which comes in perfectly.

EDIT: I even moved the BCD up to a higher spot than on my desk up on a shelf and it still won't pick up Dispatch but the PRO-106 will which is lower in height on the fan than the shelf.

I'm hearing comms on ch 1, but it is pretty garbled.
It seems my PRO-106 with the 800MHZ antenna from RS can pick up Dispatch but my BCD996XT with the "radio" style long antenna that came with it can not. Why is that? And yes, Dispatch is pretty severely garbled and somewhat broken for me.

I've been picking them up fine from Fair Oaks on my outdoor antenna and PSR-500. They made an announcement this morning that dispatch was back on channel 1 and records back on channel 2. It sounds like technical issues behind the scenes to me.

I still can't pick up Dispatch but Control 5 and their Tac channel on 460.350 is coming in fine. 460.225 is the problem for me. I live shy of 10 miles from their antenna.

There must be some weird JuJu surrounding my scanner. I get Dispatch with full signal on the BCD996XT now but the audio is still pretty distorted and garbledish.

Try taking your scanner remote. Get closer to the site, even with no antenna attached, and see if you get clear reception. That will help ID whether you have a reception problem or digital decoding problem.

Do you know if you are near any cell towers or other (high powered) UHF transmitters? They could be overwhelming your receiver. Try receiving with the attenuator on. If you are using an 800MHz antenna, go back to the stock antenna. Make some changes, note the differences, and that will help ID what your underlying problems are.

When SJ was analog, I'd get the main channel all the time, but not the secondary channels (I'd get them at night only). Now that they're digital, I am amazed at how clear everything is 24/7. Although the digital sounds like it is going through a warbler or flanger sometimes. But that happens on most digital signals from time to time.
