The question about MW DX was answered in your Euroope thread (I think it was in the HF forum)...as for FM DX right now is excellent, if you are on the East coast or in the midwest.
You should be able to listen into the stronger ducting with a sensitive FM portable - or even a stereo - and a antenna that can be swung in different directions. I've done it with both.
