Not to be picky here, but I've noticed several posters have mentioned R.A.C.E.S. in conjuction with severe weather reporting. R.A.C.E.S. is only activated for emergencies that would result from a presidential declaration of war powers. It is solely a Civil Defense function and is strictly limited to these specific emergencies. A R.A.C.E.S. station may or may not be associated with an A.R.E.S. organization . An amateur station must be cerified as R.A.C.E.S. by the local Civil Defense organization (EMA). Clearly, a R.A.C.E.S. station would not be activated for severe weather.
