So, other than the typical radios, cameras, scanners, laptops, radar, what other gear do people have in their cars/trucks for storm chasing/ Skywarn service?

Do you have signs on your car? T-Shirts? Lights? Anything handy or helpful?

For example, since I dont chase outside my county I have my ham handhelds with plenty of extra batteries, reflective vest, small amber light for the roof, digital camera, small basic first aid kit, spare tire.

What do you carry? Where do you purchase your items, especially Skywarn shirts? (i've personally been looking for a place to get good quality shirts from.)

Remember, stay safe out there, and dont do anything stupid!!

Why do you need any of these items? Weather spotting is about ensuring that information is being reported to the proper agency. This does not grant you any special privileges, rights, responsibilities, or permission to do anything different than anybody else in the general public.

Lose the lights, I'm sure NewsPhotog will be along to post a video shortly.

Forget about t shirts, signs, and lights. Nobody needs any of these things.

Because the vest is only used when out doing damage assessment, the light is used when pulled over on the side of the road. Never said it granted any special permissions, nor do i expect it to. I expect it to help me not get killed by some nimrod not paying attention!

and thanks for providing productive information to the discussion! It's a great assesst!

since its obvious that only one person provided anything productive to this conversation, i have asked for the thread to be deleted as it's obvious that its just going to turn into a big bashing thread, and that was not the intent of my post.

Good day.

You asked what people used beyond the normal things, and people answered. I could not tell you where to get those things because they don't "apply" to me and I do not use them. There is no reason to park your car in a place where it is in danger of being hit. If you are involved with "storm damage assessment", you probably have better logos on your shirt than skywarn, and they probably have initials like EMA or NWS.

sorry you didn't get the answer you were looking for.
